Well, I have a question for Gary, Darryl, Ken, Tom -- How does the exceptional sound of a 21 F-4 compare to the sound of the highly regarded A2-Z ? I've never owned either one, and wondered what...

Re: Kalamazoo mandolins -- Many years ago, I remember Carl Stump commenting on them, as I recall, he used to see some of them up north. One thing he said has always
stuck with me : He said he had...
Re: Monroe's 2nd Loar -- It is truly surprising that no one knows of the
present whereabouts of that mandolin. One thing to remember when it
is suggested that he never got it back ( James' call...
Wow, I just love this Monroe talk. Every story, every tale, and every experience about him and that mandolin is like
food to a Monroe fanatic. Now, Darryl, I understand why I
used to have to...
The way Dave holds his pick, and his fluid picking ease,
reminds me very much of Red Rector, another unsung hero
of the mandolin pickers. And, Red did not use a strap
either.
A good point indeed -- Darryl, what is your thinking on why the same
guys could not, or did not, build the same instruments after Lloyd left as when he was there ?
I recently saw Rhonda and the Rage at
Dollywood. It was a good show, but I'll be honest
I was a little surprised at how unexciting and
blah they seemed to be. It just really seemed like
they...
What is their web address ?
Ditto for me -- I have black and white Wegen 150s', and I prefer the white ones. I wonder what it is about the black ones, as they seem to feel better and sound better. But, I carry both. If you're...
I am fairly certain that it is a Chris Warner product as well. I recall someone telling me once that it was a Kirk, but the word then came from a more knowing source that it was
from Warner. But...
Maybe he'll have open-heart surgery again this year
and not make it to the Monroe Camp -- Nobody missed
him last year, as far as he nose -- Pim Jullen...
I must say, a very nice mando indeed, Mr. Squirrel.
How about a nice shot of the back ?
Not wanting to come across as a smart answer, the reason that
services at Gibson cost more is because they are worth it.
Dave Harvey and Jackie Miller do the best set ups in Nashville,
or...
The mandolin picker with Herschel, is it possible that
might be a very young Alan Bibey ?
Fabulous, just fabulous -- Thanks Darryl and Bobby,
you guys are the Best, but you already know that !! http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif
Also, thanks to Brian...
Yes Marcus, wasn't it a wonderful weekend ? The picking and singing at the pool was the highlight of each day for me...
Most fun I've had in years. I sure hope we can all get together again soon....
Darryl, here are my present two Masters
V 70394 -- Date is Sept 27, 2003.-- Lighter than normal finish,
to somewhat resemble a '22 Loar. Distinct one piece
back. Signed by Charlie...
Like Fred and Clyde said, the standard for all to meet is 'The Gibson' sound. There are many good people who make a good mandolin, but Gibson has a sound that I've never heard duplicated. I've always...
MandoAlex, don't feel bad, I own a bunch of Wegen picks,
and in the M150 model, my black ones also sound better
than the white ones. I've never mentioned it before,
cause I didn't figure anyone...
A Fool's advice -- Save yourself a lot of heartache, get
yourself the best Gibson you can afford -- You won't regret
it -- http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif
Well, what about son James ? One thing for sure, he would
not have to learn to talk like Bill -- about the singing,
well,uh, I'm not so sure !...
I have two of the Ameritage cases you are talking about.
Really, they are an excellent case with some of the best
protection for the instrument that I have seen. I would
have to recommend them...
Zeek, wait till you get a Gibson and get used to
that 'Gibson Sound".
Don't forget the deerskin straps from Randy King.
They are some of the most user friendly straps you
are going to find. Try 'em, you'll like 'em.
Are you sure that mandolin picker isn't
Frank Wakefield ?? http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif
