    Hi Brucifer,

Can't figure out how to personal mail you, so I'll tack onto this thread for now.

Many may consider it not true bluegrass, but anyone
interested in the mando-family should own a copy of Norman & Nancy Blake's
"Natasha's Waltz" - just a superb CD featuring mandos, mandolas,...

Re: Suggestions for a new mandolin?

PS - regarding your other difficulty - getting strings over the bridge:
IMHO needle nose pliers are essential tools for musicians.
One does need to be careful, but they get the job done,

Re: Suggestions for a new mandolin?

Regarding stringing difficulty on mandolins, I had the same issue for a while.

The best answer I found was a capo - even a guitar capo.
The one-hand spring-loaded ones are probably easiest, but...

    Compensated saddle question for OMs

    Hi All,

I'd be the first to acknowledge that I'm no mando expert, and certainly not one on saddles, compensated or otherwise. However, I recently bought a new OM and am having difficulty with the...

    Re: Wonderwall - Oasis

The trick to this song on guitar is that you dedicate your ring/pinky to holding down D/G on the 3rd fret of the first and second strings and never change it thru the entire song. Those two notes...

    Hi Taterbugman,

I'm the current owner of Lee's former TC-OM and I have to say I like it a lot, too.

    Re: Cafe's Two-Finger Chord Chart: A maj?

    To the OP:

If you need a 2-finger Amaj up there with a C#, try 9-11-0-0 instead of 9-7-0-0.
I just found this one while working on a friend's song - nice chord.

If the following three statements apply, I've found tuning by harmonics works really well.

    Another vote here for Am7.

'Course then you got some choices of how to render it on gtr - can't speak to banjo.

    Re: fingering a b7

I admit it lacks the D#, but I've always liked

Re: Mandola strings on an octave mandolin?

Question for those running .16 - .56 gauge strings.
Did you change the tailpiece to a cast one, as well?

I'd like to get a less floppy sound, but I'm skeptical of
    the stamped tailpiece.

  25. Re: looking for most affordable acoustic/electric

At the risk of getting blasted by the mando-purists<g>,
    I bought a Dean Playmate acou/elec-mando for ~$175 4-5 years ago.
Last time I checked they were selling them off for even less ($159?-ish).
