    Re: Deer antler saddle

The music stops when you shine a bright light at that saddle.

Since antlers are bone, they should work as well as other bony saddles. My only concern might be in the twisting of the antler and...

    Re: Virzi today...

There are quite a few builders who will include a Virzi in their builds. I had a Brian Dean (LaBraid) L&H Style A reproduction that had his take on the Virzi inside. I never heard it with or without...

Re: Modernizing an A-4. Yes or No?

I say update the fretboard and wire. If you can, save the old fingerboard in case you ever want to sell it as a historical piece. It's just money and there are actually lots of A oval gibson...

    Re: Repair Recommendation

I have used Bucks County Folk Music in New Britain.

There's also Fred Oster's Shop Philadelphia Vintage Instruments in Philly.

Call and see if they can help.

  13. Re: G Strings on Nearly New Eastman 805V-2022 Model

Did you get it new or used? Has it had a set up and had the slots inspected at nut and bridge? Are the strings dead (granted, in my experience it isn't the G strings that die first). Of course, I'm...

    Re: Wagon Wheel help?

On a completely unrelated note, I saw a funny tiktiok where a person plotted out the towns and destinations reference in the lyrics and it didn't make any sense unless the writer meant a store not...

    Re: Mid-Mo madnolin value....

I would say depending upon condition of a mandolin that is still produced, the starting point for an excellent condition used mandolin would be 70% of a new one's price.

    Dings and issues lower the...

ARS has used Philly's Fred Oster of Philadelphia Vintage Instruments before. His valuations always have seemed reasonable and his shop isn't just old Gibsons. I was especially surprised at the...

    Re: Ever wonder?

Lynchburg Virginia was my hometown. It is surrounded by Amherst, Bedford, and Campbell Counties. Each of the three counties has it's own distinct accent. If I spent more than a hot minute in town...

That was their very fine D (oval) hole F style mandolin. I really love the look of them. Reaching out directly to Bruce or Mary will get you the fastest details.

  24. Re: Changing my mandolin strings for the very first time

I've used this method since I started ages ago. I never have drawn blood. I did add a capo to assist keeping the string on the post but that isn't needed.

Re: Eastman 515 neck too heavy

Did you previously have an A style mandolin? That F style peghead is a hunk of wood that affects ballance. All of them have that issue. I rather doubt the issue is neck related. You may have...
