Some of you may know of Simon Mayor. This is my take on his tune.

I kind of have a guerrilla recording technique, one or two blasts through the part and on to the next. Moving pictures are a bit beyond me so I rely on...
  5. Re: Stolen 10 years ago, on craigslist today - what can I do?

A very similar thing happened to my sister when her canoe was stolen. The insurance company eventually paid out and a new canoe was purchased. Several years later, I stumbled on her original canoe in...

Re: A Really Great Mandolin Stand

I've been running several varieties of Hercules stands on stage and in the lesson studio for many years without issue. One stand did have a clutch problem after being run over while loading out from...
  7. Re: Hio often do you freestyle on your Mandolin?

All the time. Sometimes around various tunes or themes, and sometimes just fully improvised. I believe it's a large part of musical development.

Re: How to be a Classicial Musician

Much better than the folking one. I laughed, and not just at the way tax dollars are spend on humour.

    Re: How to Folk

I applaud her effort. Not trying to be harsh, but that's a thinly veiled way of saying it was amateurish. She hasn't hung out backstage at enough folk festivals, or played enough folk clubs.

Re: Chicks dig guys who play an instrument

The reason we had to close Mike's Tambourine, Accordion, & Glockenspiel Repair Shop was the chicks were too distracting and too many mistakes were made.

    Tragic.
  13. Re: What's the weirdest MUSICAL thing you've ever done?

I sang the part of The Great King Rat in a little theatre production of The Pied Piper. "The king of all the rats am I, a rodent proud and free..."

I've recorded a cello part and a bodhran part in...
  14. Re: KALA KA-GTR tenor guitar cases FINALLY !

Man, the local suppliers just couldn't seem to get their act together enough to get a case for me. I ended up getting a Martin "little Martin" gig bag that's a very good fit. At least I can gig this...

    Guitar Boogie breakdown

I'm looking for Guitar Boogie Breakdown, guitar, mandolin, tab and/or sheet music for a student project. If anyone knows where I can get this, you'll be saving us a lot of time.

    Many thanks.

    Re: KALA KA-GTR tenor case?

Thanks for everyone's attention to the case matter. Kala did return my email this week with the same song and dance, "Gig bags and cases are in the process of making it to our stores." It's...

    Re: KALA KA-GTR tenor case?

Any sign of the case yet? It doesn't appear on the Kala website (at least, I can't find it), and the cardboard box the dealer supplied is less than inadequate.

I emailed the company but haven't...

    Re: Graph Tech TUSQ picks

I found them to be overly bright with too much clack when the note is initially articulated. Probably not near so much an issue on electric instruments with magnetic pickups, but acoustically I found...

By what was posted on Facebook it sounds like whoever plays mandolin in the band Runa is the mandolin instructor at the celtic college. If I hear anything different, I'll try to post it here.

    Re: bouzouki pick

Blue Chip TP-40 with no bevel. I tend to use the same pick most of the time on every fretted instrument I play (except ukulele), and the BC seems to do what I need. Little or no clack or clank when...

Re: Why did you start playing a cbom?

Several years of hearing folks play them at a celtic music festival, and the realization that I could play my mandolin tunes on one, and accompany songs much like I do with guitar. Frankly, I haven't...
