Re: Spirit Varnish for a mandolin?

Thanks for bumping it up. I missed this thread and it is a nice read. Now I need to check my online shellac flake purchase. I honestly don't know if it was dewaxed.

    Re: Picking over the fretboard?

I don't know about harp sounds but I find that practicing over the fret board has helped me get rid of the sewing machine action in my right hand, well maybe not get rid of but improve!

    Re: Oval Hole Picking Technique

Make sure the instrument top is not rotated up too much. I actually intentionally keep mine vertical to a bit down so I am not tempted to watch the fret board constantly. Too much rotation up could...

    Re: Bandsaw upgrade

Well, it seems at some point in the past I must have reduced tension on the bandsaw. I was going over everything today and when I tightened the lever for tension I noticed there wasn't much. Yep I...

    Re: Bench Heights

I'm short and slowly shrinking apparently. I have been told I remind people of a dwarf from The Lord of the Rings Movies. Anywho the bench I am using now with the leveling table on top is about 41"...

    Bench Heights

Just curious, how high do you like your benches to be? I recently put a jig onto on my bench putting it up above my naval and find I really like that height. The benches have been lower in the past...

    Re: Old Woodworking Machines

I really dislike this thread. Every time I see it I catch myself searching Craigslist and such looking for old equipment up here. When I finally slip and buy an old machine and get it Im telling her...

    Re: Bandsaw upgrade

I have never, buried a blade in the blocks, do you do this with the very small blades? I usually use .75 simply for resaving but I would like to branch out with the bandsaw. So if you don’t mind what...

    Re: Bandsaw upgrade

Auto correct and I have a love hate relationship. I hate I have to go back and proof read when I was so careful the first time but love when it makes me laugh.

I wish I had more than an hour or...

I’m goi go to see if I can find the king I’m vitae around. I like the idea of burying the blade when needed or desired.

Thanks everyone! I have not ordered the Carter bearings yet. I will certainly try to true up my cool blocks first. I’ll still look for an alternative to the ceramic thrust bearing it grooves to...

    Re: Bandsaw upgrade

I have a .75" timber wolf blade on now but it will come off for sharpening and a .5" blade will go on. Not sure who I got it from. I have been cutting less than optimally dry wood so it may be that...

I have a 14 jet bandsaw around 20years old with the 6 risers. It has cool blocks but they are showing their age. I am considering upgrading the blocks to carter micro adjust bearings. Does anyone...

    Re: Memorizing a song

I look at it this way. If you have the ability to sing, hum, whistle, arm pit fart, I don't care, in tune and it helps you learn the tune then by all means do so. If you don't then find something...
