  1. Re: Chris Thile & Aoife O'Donovan Lakes of Pontchartrain

It would sound better if Aoife pronounced the words clearly, it sounds like she's mumbling it.

    Re: The wear of celluloid

I've used Golden Gate plectrums fo quite a few years, can't see any noticable wear on them.

  5. Re: Apparently you can play a slow air on a fretted instrument ..

The late Barney McKenna could play a slow air on mandolin and tenor banjo beautifully.

    Re: Narrowing my string search....

I found Thomastik strings a bit quiet compared to standard round wound.

    Re: Cases and covers

The only people I know here in the UK who use case covers are fiddle players, and they're all demented.

    Re: Pickguard or no pickgaurd?

It doesn't seem to bother Marla Fibish too much not having a pickguard on her Gibson.

    Re: Lubrikit

Pencil lead is a mixture of graphite and clay.

I don't use it any more, just keep the slots clean.

    Re: Mandolin 'dogs'?

I tried out 3 Gibson F9s the first 2 were lifeless, I bought the third one which incidently was the cheapest of the 3, it sounds fabulous.

  14. Re: Some questions about optional features on mandolins:

Binding protects the edges of the wood. Simon Mayor said that his first Mike Vanden mandolin has suffered from having no back binding.

  15. Re: What is a 12-15 Year Old Eastman MD-915 Worth?

I paid 1970.00 for mine in 2014 if I wanted to sell it I'd let it go for 1500

Re: Collings Headstock and string winders

If you use Frank Fords method you won't need a string winder.

  18. Re: International shipping: any recommendations

I sold a tenor banjo to a guy in New York, Fed Ex picked it up in Bradford West Yorkshire on a Thursday morning and delivered it in New York on the following Saturday,

    2 days, doesn't get much...

Re: Bridge upgrade on new Eastman mando?

I can't understand why someone would be thinking about changing the bridge on an instrument they have never played, seems odd to me.

Re: Speed of bluegrass... is it just me?

This reminds me of an interviewer asking the great Irish piper Finbar Furey why he played so fast, Finbar replied ' because I can '

I thinks this applies to a few mandolin players too.

Re: Worst scroll of the last century?

It's worse than that, very small centre on the body scroll and the headstock scroll is mishapen, but it's a great sounding instrument so I can live with it.

Re: Worst scroll of the last century?

I've got a Gibson F9 with an awful looking scroll, the mandolin itself sounds fabulous.
