    Re: Picks- Acrylic

I'm not aware of any of my picks being acrylic. Which make is acrylic?

For buffing I play a nailfile at the angle I'd play the strings.

    Re: OM case stinks

The name of the case should have warned you ;-)

I don't know if it will affect chemical smell, but car companies use ozone (O3) to treat smelly cars.

    Re: Octave mandolin less-expensive choices

I just bought this Hora from the original buyer and it's amazing value for money. The same goes for the Mandola and the Mandolin II i bought from them.

The mandola and mandolin just needed...
  10. Re: adjustable bridge with different side height

The G side should be higher as this string is thicker and at lower frequencies, so it wil swing a wider distance than the E string risking touching the fret.

Re: Are travel mandolins worth it?

I ordered the strings Cary mentioned but I just tried to play a mandolin tune on one of my ukuleles and I didn't like it. Especially the tremolo sounded horrible, so a mando tuned ukulele is out for...
  12. Material and shape of old German endpiece cover?

Hello. I'm restoring a nice old German mandolin and want to recreate the cover for the endpiece.

Do you know what material it was made of? I'm speculating zinc?

Can you just change the tuning or which strings do you use? I have a lot of ukuleles and have thought of the same.

Re: Are travel mandolins worth it?

  18. Distance between string pairs, the same or wider at bridge?

I have restored a 100 year old mandolin but found after stringing it, that the strings went closer and closer to the edge of the fretboard as they got closer to the bridge.

    When trying to correct...

    Are travel mandolins worth it?

I wonder if it is worth buying a travel mandolin, mostly for the car, considering that a normal mandolin isn't that big anyway.
