    Re: What's this? 0-3-2-0

Here is a web site that refers to it as “short notation”. I have no idea if that is the proper term or not.

CarlM has great advice - make sure you are pressing as lightly as possible. That takes practice.

Make sure the action is setup well. If it’s too high you will work too hard.

  6. Re: Help with a 1900's Bowlback Mandolin please?

Good recommendations from Jim: the Calaces or the ultra light. It’s the neck joint that is at risk. It’s a little hard to tell from the side view picture but the action looks high. This could be a...

Jack Tuttle taught at Gryphon for years. I don’t think they are hosting lessons anymore so Jack is on Zoom. Jack is Molly Tuttle‘s father. Here is his website: http://www.jacktuttle.com

This F2 is mentioned in this week’s Gryphon eGazette. It says, “We started our eBay auctions as a way to clear out the impressive collection of instruments needing work, and the parts to fix them,...
  9. Re: Would love to get more info on these 2 bowlbacks

Be sure to use only extra light strings. The neck joints on bowlbacks will fail under too much tension.

Re: Sucks being a Canadian sometimes

I don’t see it on the Northfield web site but The Mandolin Store says the NF-S has “Solid Mother of Pearl dot position markers and peghead logo.”

Re: Sucks being a Canadian sometimes

Could be the use of mother-of-pearl. The Dusty Strings web site says:

We mostly ship within the continental United States. For international shipping, please call for an...

I always enjoy the first track on this album. Andy Statman’s break just after the one minute mark is smokin’.

Look for the YouTube videos of Catarina Lichtenberg or Avi Avital. They both appear to be picking those notes rather than pull off. But certainly is your choice.
