    Re: Bourgeois Mandolins!

Only as long as Eastman needs Dana to participate, or when his contract with them ends. Mrs. Bourgeois is a corporate attorney, so I am sure the terms were negotiated so that he has an exit strategy.

    Re: Bourgeois Mandolins!

They are looking for experienced mandolin luthiers. I don’t know how many builders who would give up their own building to move to Lewiston, Maine and work in a shop that has pretty high turnover.

I love the case! It’s giving me ideas. I just saw the new Carlton pricing.

    Re: Bourgeois Mandolins!

But Northfields are not factory-made instruments. There are no large groups of workers making their instruments.

From what I understand from someone who was contacted by Bourgeois is that the...

    Re: 2-Mando Case

One is overseas and states that he will not ship to the US. There aren't too many double mandolin cases. They tend to be more bulky than heavy.

    Re: Heavy-duty gigbag for Bouzouki

They are not as rigid/thick as the Reunion Blues. Neither is the Mono, in terms of guitar bags. Richard Beard uses the Access Bags (not sure if they are guitar or banjo bags) for the octaves he...
  7. Re: Holding on to your personal Holy Grail mandolin

Bonding with it is the key. Play it enough to make a judgement as to whether you want to keep it.

    Re: Heavy-duty gigbag for Bouzouki

I have both the Access bag and the RB guitar bag (I found the banjo bag to be too tight for octave or bouzouki). I’d go with the Access bag if your instrument fits.
  9. Re: Holding on to your personal Holy Grail mandolin

I have to say, Michael Heiden makes a mighty fine mandolin. I am now in possession of two (the most recent is a blond A5 from 2021). I waved bye-bye to three mandolins after getting it and the...

Re: Advice on purchasing my next mandolin(s)

TME had an older Girouard A5 when I was there Wednesday. They also have a Smart two point that is styled for jazz. Itís got a bigger, fuller neck and would be perfect for that style. They also...

    Re: Concerning Loar copy mandolins

I played a Griffith Girouard yesterday…of all the Loar-inspired mandolins out there, some have the look, but none have really had the sound. Until now. I’ve played a few Loars and a few Ferns. ...

Re: Dennis Cahill has passed away - R.I.P.

From what I have read, it appears that he had been ill for a bit. Very sad news.

    Re: Girouard "Griffith" tribute mandolin.

From what I understand there are four Girouard Griffin models. This includes the one in the Andrew Marlin/Bruce Harvey video, which belongs to Bruce. TME has had two: one they sold a while back,...

    Re: Girouard A4 build thread.

Both Campanella and Toole build in a certain style. It’s not an aesthetic, it’s a style of building, with years of experience in developing a French polish technique, voicing, the rolled bindings,...

Re: New Guitar Case under $600

Hiscox is no longer selling in the US. Visesnut sells cases that are a bit over your price range. A lot of luthiers have switched to them. You might also look at Bam.
  18. Re: Just saw this note in classified section: What does it mean?

Itís pretty clear. Most sites discourage these forms of payment. As a buyer, you have no recourse if a purchase made with these forms of payment goes south.

    Re: Bourgeois Mandolins!

As Scott said, there is Northfield, which markets the Calhoun at around $1k. There is nothing after that because it is not sustainable. My hat is off to Northfield as they continue to offer this...

Other than Northfield what other US makers are making a playable, presentable A style mandolin in any quantities? And I’m not talking about solo builders who I suspect are not really making money on...
