    It helps to pre bend the binding over a hot pipe so it matches the sides.

    If you want a wider nut and a different voice but don't want to deal with a different tuning, consider an octave mandolin. Lots of choices. Or just get a mandola. ;)

    They tend to get mixed reviews and the OP is looking for a hybrid mandolin in a much higher price bracket.
