  1. Re: Remined of yet another cool thing about Frank Solivan

I do that with my fiddles (new strings and constant tuning can pull the bridge slightly) but its always a little nerve-wracking when I do.
  2. Re: Yet another Kentucky KM-1050 vs KM-1500 thread?!

I agree with all of this.

Re: New Ellis Mandolins at Music Emporium

Sorry you've had a bad experience, but since you've made your point multiple times now, I don't see the need for continuing to run down a local business that has very favorable reviews.

Like the above poster, I also had a great experience with them purchasing my Girouard.

    Re: The cure for MAS

I don't think it has to be the either/or (nice mando/crotchety old man) you've described.

It could be that you've just gotten so used to the particular sound of your mando, that others that sound...

    Re: Blind Pick-Off!

Auditory challenges are fun but so subjective and difficult to judge (even live). Here's my elav:

    #1 - bright, good tone
#2 - brightest of the 3, good tone if you like that amount of brightness...

    Re: Secure Endpin?

I'm not trying to be rude when I say please don't take this advice. Unless I'm dense and missed the sarcasm meant in the first 3 words.

I would also advise a single wrap of tape on the endpin.

  22. Re: New mandolin question. (eastman, the loar, richwood)

The Richwood looks good, especially since it comes with a luthier set-up. Otherwise, sight-unseen, I'd tell you to go with the Eastman.

I'd be worried that the "The Loar" might discourage you,...
