Re: Blackgrass: Swamp Dogg Announces New Album

Swamp Dogg is a hoot. Saw him at the Lowell Folk Festival a few years back; his mother opened up for him! She sang "I'm 86 and still playing with the boys."

When a guy writes a song like "The Love...

Battery life is great because of the auto-shutoff, an essential feature for those of us who are old and feeble-minded.

Excellent playing. Very creative, and it swings. Best version I've heard of that old chestnut.

    Re: Rover rm-50 Mandolin?

An RM50 was my first mandolin. I got it from Elderly so it was nicely set up, no problems with the tailpiece or anything. I thought it was a pretty nice little mandolin for the money (probably about...

    Re: Nashville Chord changes

If there are four chord changes in one bar, that's jazz.
  8. Re: Jam Etiquette / Rules Question - Should songs be banned

Thanks for reminding me. I need to call that one more often.
  9. Re: Jam Etiquette / Rules Question - Should songs be banned

The only song I have ever banned at any of my jams is "Sylvia's Mother." It's my jam, and I don't like it, and that's reason enough.

I would never call Wagon Wheel but don't mind playing it if...

    Re: Harmony Monterey mandolins

I had one some years ago and wouldn't particularly recommend them. It wasn't awful but there was nothing special about it. For $450 you could do better.

Re: First jam since before the Pandemic

You didn't miss much in 2021, when we were all wearing masks while jamming. Made it tough to sing, even tougher to play harmonica.

    Re: new trend?

Who could possibly be interested in information that's over 20 years old? I am throwing out all my music theory and instruction books published before 2003. And my complete works of Shakespeare too!

Re: Is anyone else scared of Bill Monroe?

There is a name for this kind of behavior, and it's not "kind" or "considerate."

    Oh, and Joe, paragraphs, please!

Re: Using a capo with a mandolin?

Playing a mandolin with a capo just isn't done. Like playing a right-handed guitar left-handed just isn't done (right Jimi? right Albert?) or playing a bass guitar with a pick (right Macca?)

    Re: Mark Knopfler's Mandolin

I have one hanging on my wall I would let go for $20. All it needs is a neck reset and slap on a pickup.

Re: Do instruments appreciate in value over time?

No doubt that is true. But it's funny how you see so many old Kay, Harmony, Sivertone, etc. instruments showing up for ridiculous prices these days. They were junk back then but I guess they're cool,...

    Does this program exist?

Hey group. Does anyone know of a computer program where you can play a series of notes (i.e. a riff, a run, etc.) from an MP3 or other sound file, and it will identify the notes for you?

    Thanks!
