    Re: Arpeggio's

Arpeggios are just playing the notes of a chord individually, one after another. From a theory prospective the basic chord (called a triad) are based on scales. Chords are made from every other note...

    Re: Wood ID

I guess I was being a bit narrow minded, seeing things from a US only perspective. I am pretty sure it is legal to do so in the US but not to export.

I believe it is legal to re-use wood on the CITES list. I would document where it came from. particularly the age of the piece it cam from to show that it was legal at the time of harvest. ...

    Re: Cost for refret

It sounds like you may only need a partial re-fret. That should be less expensive and may not require a new nut, unless you otherwise need one.

    Re: Intonation woes

If the string is sharp at the first fret or two but flat ass you fret up the board that is a good indication the nut is cut high. About the only other thing that would cause that would be poorly...

    Re: Name that wood

Hardwoods can be divided into ring porous and diffuse porous. It is common to use the analogy of drinking straws for the grain of the wood with the open part of the straws being the pores. In ring...
  11. Re: Augustino LoPrinzi electric mandolin on Ebay

I believe the LoPrinzi company was purchased by another company. One brother stayed with the company. August left and made his own things for a while.

    Re: Eastman Opaque Finishes Question

I have not worked on this particular one but metal flake finishes are notoriously hard to work on. A fairly thick clear coat is needed to get a flat finish. Removing some of the top coat would...

Re: Tell me it gets easier.

Just a thought. I think proper setup is even more important on mandolin than guitar. Those small strings are under a fair bit more tension and being shorter have less elasticity. A poor setup can...

    Re: Refretting a Gibson A

I suspect the difference in sound is due to how cleanly the string is stopped with a bigger fret having more contact due to the bigger radius.
