  1. Re: Video demo of my new Craig Wilson "Griffith Loar"Tribute mand

Very nice. Impressive mandolin and also impressive picking. Really enjoyed that great demonstration and Monroe style playing.
  2. Re: Mandolin Tasting: Gibsons, Buckeye, Duff, Northfiled

#1 and #3 are my favorites with a small edge going to #1 for my ear.

I think Mike is nearing 325 instruments of which I would guess 90% are mandolin family.

Re: Amazing Nugget F5 at Carter's!

Mike's mandolins are in a league of their own. This is a deluxe model. i bet that mandolin moves at very close to the list price at Carters. One thing, I wonder if those Waverly's are replacements? I...

Re: New carbon fiber mandolin builder

Very nice. I too am interested in how these sound. I bet surprisingly good. I've also wondered why Blackbird out of San Francisco never built a carbon fiber mandolin. They have a proprietary carbon...

  10. Re: Collings MT2 versus Single Shop Builder Purchase?

Wow, that's one of the best deals I've seen on a mint condition MT2. You absolutely can't go wrong with a Collings MT2 and especially at this price.

Re: Gibson F5 Hall of Fame Bill Monroe Mandolin

It looks as if they are an Authorized Gibson dealer. I think Gibson may be expanding their dealer network as I saw a new Gibson mandolin advertised by Wilcutt Guitars in Lexington KY.
  12. Re: F'in Mandolin Shootout with a Nugget, Gilchrist and Hogan!

Thanks Jake and I enjoyed listening. Not a dud among those three. However, I will describe what I hear through my speakers.

Overall, Nugget has the very sweet tone, well balanced and HUGE A and E...

Re: 97 Nugget at Music Emporium

OK. Someone fess up. Looks like this beautiful Nugget has found a new home. Hope it's going to a player that will enjoy it for many years. I was trying to move a mandolin so I could purchase this...

  16. Re: Campanella, Red Diamond, Northfield, Collings experience

Tim, I to am a fan of Collings MT2-V mandolins. I have had two. I traded one in on a Derrington era 2001 Gibson Master Model. I love the sound of the MM. I also have another 2004 MM as well as a 2007...

Re: diminished value from a repair?

That's really not what I would consider "structural". In my mind, structural would be top crack, side crack, neck snap or break at the nut, etc. I think a repair on this won't devalue your mandolin...
  20. Re: Campanella two-point (How to make an accent on due?)

I think those at The Music Emporium that sold for that price were special Anniversary models and therefore carried a premium above the standard models. Just my thought and I could be completely...

Re: Northfield F5S On the Way

Kevin, I'm just curious. You say it was buzzing and a reputable luthier said it had a twisted neck. Has this all been corrected?

    Re: Shout out to Collings

My opinion, but Monel's tone down some the brightness on my MT2 Torrefied Top and make it sound awesome with a good easy playing feel. On my MT2V, all torrefied, J74's some to be the preferred tone...

    Re: Shout out to Collings

  24. Re: Gibson threatening the mandolin and guitar luthier community

Jan, you say it's not opinion but fact and scientifically measurable, can you point us to the scientific research and fact sheets of this information you'r talking about?
  25. Re: Gibson threatening the mandolin and guitar luthier community

That's exactly what I'm talking about. The scrolls are just different and to my eye look way to open in the scroll area. Not saying they don't sound as good because all I've played sounded nice, but...
