  1. Re: What are some of the best Mandolins that you all have played?

I recently acquired a 2017 Campanella A440 (oval hole). I've only been playing mandolin for about four years so not that many mandos have passed through my hands, but this Campanella is without a...

Re: Feedback on Eastman hard case?

I get a kick out of your reference to having a "plastic" mandolin. I acquired what is probably the last "son of Mix" carbon fiber mandolin built by Adam Buchwald (Circle Strings). It was the F5-style...

    Re: Yet Another CF Mandolin?

There must be an extraordinary amount of risk associated with bringing a new instrument into a product lineup. I appreciate what Klos is doing to bring a carbon fiber mandolin to the market. I cannot...
  4. Re: A Question for Thomastic Infeld Aficionados

Tried some Starks on my MTO; wanted to like them but after a few weeks I restrung with Elixir lights. I find that Thomastiks need an exceptional mandolin to overcome their subtle tone. For me, the...

Just received the email from Klos a few minutes ago. I’m all in.

  6. Re: Anyone Never Get Past the 'Speed Plateau'?

Jeff D: such great advice on so many levels. Thank you for sharing. I’m a relatively late starter with the mandolin. Your suggestions are so helpful on may levels.

    Re: Yet Another CF Mandolin?

Ian, take my money! Seriously, I have a CF mandolin, made by Circle Strings and I’m hooked. Indeed, CF doesn’t sound like wood, but it has it’s own sound, and I like it. The stability of CF in...

Re: Frank Solivan and ToneSlabs picks

I just picked up a 1.4 Tweener. Gobsmacked! I actually think it’s every bit as grippy as a Blue Chip. Tone is indeed a bit brighter. My new favorite pick.

    Re: Phoenix Neo Classical Comments

The fretboard on the Neoclassical is built with a radius. I have owned this mandolin for about six months and remain gobsmacked at how remarkable an instrument it is. It took me a while to fully...

Re: Phoenix Jazz Mandolin string choices

Ted, if the EFW74s work fine on the Phoenix Jazz, how well does the Phoenix Jazz work with the EFW74s?

Where I’m coming from: after using Thomastik-Infelds for any an all flat wound strings for...

    Re: Inexpensive instrument holders

Admiring your collection of carbon fiber. I have a Circle Strings F5 style carbon/Kevlar mandolin. It’s tone might not be for everyone, but it is for me. What’s your experience with that rare Adamas?
  12. Re: What has happened to Elixir mando strings?

You are most welcome. My 69-year-old hands appreciate light gauge strings more than ever.

  13. Re: What has happened to Elixir mando strings?

As of this late afternoon/evening, Monday 6 June 2021, the last shipment of Elixir Mandolin strings -- light and medium -- have arrived at Strings and Beyond. Check 'em out.

  14. Re: Elixir Official Notice Mandolin strings discontinued

Alas, sources for coated light strings are limited. But Elixir is probably doing what it must.
  15. Re: What has happened to Elixir mando strings?

    Eric,

I managed to order five sets of the light gauge Elixirs from Dave’s Guitar Shop. That reduces their inventory to five. I know it’s a first-world problem, but it’s a sad day nonetheless....

Re: Changes to the Original Brekke Bridge

I welcome all these changes, especially the full-contact base. When and where these new bridges become available, I’m in.

  17. Mandolin made for Thomastik-Infeld 154 Medium strings

I'm gobsmacked at how great a Phoenix Neoclassical Europa sounds when strung with Thomastik-Infeld Medium (10-34) strings. As I understand it, this Phoenix was built with these TI strings in mind.

  18. Re: Problem Installing Rubner tuners on 1924 Gibson A-2 mandolin

I have a set of Rubners on my Collings MT2. Sure was a challenge getting them installed but it was worth the effort. I handed the job to my local luthier. He discovered that he had to ream all eight...
  19. Re: Best Mandolin for Traveling From Sea Level to High Desert?

Mojo, about three weeks ago I took delivery of a cf/Kevlar mandolin I ordered from Adam almost exactly a year ago. As we drew close to the finish line, Adam said that mine might be the last CF...
  20. Re: Best Mandolin for Traveling From Sea Level to High Desert?

I have a new "son of The Mix," the Circle Strings brand carbon/Kevlar F5. The stability of this instrument is remarkable. It seems that the need to retune is the result of strings that stretch over...

I am amazed at how concisely John Hamlett describes the fitting of neck to body. He is as adept with words as he is with wood.
