    Thank you bill! :)
  2. Re: My stridente can't cope with gauge 9 string tension :/

Assuming this mando is never going to be 'right' (it sounds awfully thin and weedy having tuned it down), I've been saving for a long time and have £100, which I was going to use to fix it which I...
  3. Re: My stridente can't cope with gauge 9 string tension :/

Thanks for the advice :) I'll try a last ditch effort and lower the bridge- oh I hope that works!! I'd be very sad to lose my mandolin. I'd really hoped to extend it's life, poor little thing :(
  4. Re: My stridente can't cope with gauge 9 string tension :/

Those were taken tuned down a tone. Tuned up, the neck pulls up towards the nut. It is certainly a neck bow, the neck join remains intact and does not move.

  6. Re: My stridente can't cope with gauge 9 string tension :/

Thanks for the replies everyone! Yes the neck has a whacking great addition to it in an effort to save the instrument. It was fine for a long while, although recently the neck started to bow, making...

    Excellent, thank you :)
  8. Re: My stridente can't cope with gauge 9 string tension :/

Can lowering the bridge increase the tension bearing capability of the neck?
  9. My stridente can't cope with gauge 9 string tension :/

    Hi!

I had a wonderful old stridente restored, but my problem is, even with gauge 9 strings, the relief of the neck is such that the action at fret 12 is just under 3mm. If I tune down a tone, the...

    Re: My Stridente Mandolin Restored!

It was a fellow named Sam Skey who lives in Dorset. It took about 2 weeks.

I was so surprised when I looked at where the splits had been - no trace!! I don't know how he did it, but I'm very...

    My Stridente Mandolin Restored!

I found this little stridente in a junk shop in a very sorry state- big split in the back, splits in the headstock, neck pulled forward out of position, loose tailpiece and ruined bridgepiece.

I still have the original! It needs a little work, but once that's done it will be reinstated :p

  18. Re: I've just picked up a gorgeous Stridente via Antonio 22!

I've made contact with John, sent him some detailed photos and he says its borderline as to whether or not this can be rescued. He needs to see it, make some measurements and have a good think about...
  19. Re: I rescued this charming Stridente via Antonio 22

While we're on the subject, does anyone have any details about the history of the Stridente company? I can't find much online, it would be fascinating to learn more about it.
