  1. Re: Going from mandolin to tenor guitar - technique differences?

Well that is great, Welcome to tenor guitar!!! I play mainly Irish fiddle tunes, a little blues now and again, and sometimes dip into a pop tune. Versatile instruments. For a long time I played in...

    Re: Tenor Lute

    Dave,
That would be an interesting build. The Lyon and Healy is quite different than the Gibson. 12 fret vs 14 fret, flat top vs arch top, round hole vs f-hole. Quite different sounds I should...

  7. Re: Kala Solid Mahogany Top Tobacco Burst Tenor Guitar

I had one of their solid spruce tenors. Nice little instruments, I gave it to a friend who wanted to learn, he still has it and it is going strong after many years. I have a KALA 8 string bari uke on...

    Re: Octave mandolin tuning

How does the total string tension of the old strings compare to the new setup? I have found it can take a top a little bit of time to adjust to a different total tension.

    Re: Ideal scale length

The Pono that I play is like a size 5. 12 frets to the body, 21.5" scale length. The workmanship and build quilty of the UL4-20 model is outstanding. Middle instrument hanging.

    Re: Ideal scale length

I play on instruments with 21.5" and 20.125". but they are tuned GDAE or DGBE. I am used to the shorter scale length and they work well in 5ths tuning.

Beautiful Work!! Love the oval sound hole rosette. Not easy that. The middle instrument is also particularly nice and the slotted headstock, I like that very much. All above my abilities for now....

    Dave,
I had the bending forms, etc. for this shape and decided to go with it rather than drafting out a Papoose shaped body and building the forms. I am sure it probably influences the sound and...

    Tacoma Clone Tenor Guitar

  14. Re: Absolute beginner CGDA spoon feeding learning method?

I also used the Hal Leonard Tenor Guitar Method book. however I used it in GDAE tuning by figuring out the key changes. Mostly I pick fiddle tunes and single note melodies, some chord melody.

Re: Happy Birthday to me - 6 days early

Great, stay with it!! With regards to the truss rod, handy to have one. To adjust you might want to get a set of feeler gauges. If you press a string down on the 1st and 12th fret you might want to...

Re: GDAE steel string Baritone ukulele

The woven steel "rope core" Thomastick-Infeld stings that you refer to do in fact reduce tension by about 1 1/2 lbs per string vs the KF110 strings I use. So total might be in the range of...

You are having the same initial reaction to the .038 wound string for the G that I did. I thought it would be too light, having been conditioned by 80/20 bronze strings on 6 strings. But it...
