  1. Re: Why are some songs not written in the key they are in?

Simon, it would have been had only the instructor said it was.
  2. Re: Why are some songs not written in the key they are in?

Boy, JB, I didn't realize that you are prone to understatements! (truer words were never spoken. at least not here! LOL)
  3. Re: Why are some songs not written in the key they are in?

It "could be" if it were to have been explained by Mike as such, but it wasn't, so.... You get my drift.
  4. Re: Why are some songs not written in the key they are in?

I don't know if you were joking, but if not, let's remember we are not talking about modes here. We are discussing straight up, simple music using, by and large, 3 chords in mostly all songs.
  5. Re: Why are some songs not written in the key they are in?

[QUOTE=Charlie Bernstein;1883316]So I still see the sense of just writing in the sharpless, flatless key of C and letting players transpose to suit the occasion. If the song is traditionally played...
  6. Re: Why are some songs not written in the key they are in?

[QUOTE=journeybear;1883306]Exactly. Some people here have been getting distracted by tangential considerations, perhaps abetted by interpretations of the OP's somewhat awkwardly-phrased title.

    You...
  7. Re: Why are some songs not written in the key they are in?

And that is what makes this issue so troublesome. It should be correct. A student should not have to go to a blog and asking questions about how it's done in this genre, since that is what I thought...
  8. Re: Why are some songs not written in the key they are in?

I apologize the word "proper" was not correct as you are the 2nd person to misread my intent, perhaps because you didn't take a close look at the chart. "Proper" in this case would have been using 3...
  9. Re: Why are some songs not written in the key they are in?

The good thing about sheet music and why I am basically complaining about this incorrect chart is this. It allows you to learn a song faster since you don't have to do it by ear, spending a huge...
  10. Re: Why are some songs not written in the key they are in?

    ....
  11. Re: Why are some songs not written in the key they are in?

Jim, yes it is the chart from Mike's class on ArtistWorks, beginner module. Glen is the person who transcribed it. So, whether Mike approved that or not, it looks bad. There was no explanation given...
  12. Re: Why are some songs not written in the key they are in?

Bill, this example is from the beginner module. I think I may have encountered at least one more. Maybe go back and take a look?
  13. Re: Why are some songs not written in the key they are in?

That makes sense. Thanks. A secondary question would be why would Mike allow this? I’m just in the beginner module (new to mando) but am already versed in reading (though I suck at it), but this has...
  14. Why are some songs not written in the key they are in?

I’ve noticed several songs in the Mike Marshall lesson plan are not written in the proper key. An example is below. It is written in C but is in A. All the sharps have to written in as a result.
    Is...

Re: Do you insure your instruments?

Something that’s hard to do on a mando is to put an AirTag inside it. I have them in all my guitars where they are hidden. I can get to them to change the batteries when changing strings. Depending...

Re: Guitarist looking for a Weber

Thanks, Charles. I had gotten a beautiful Weber Yellowstone. Plays n sounds great.
  17. Re: How is Tuning Drift with Rubner Tuning Machine

That’s good info. Mine is a 2012. Is the accuracy because they turn so much easier? The current iteration Grovers are 18:1, while Rubners are 16:1. I don’t know what’s on mine. Do you think it...
  18. How is Tuning Drift with Rubner Tuning Machine

I’ve got stock Grover’s on a Weber Yellowstone. They turn without much effort. The mando just had a full setup, including nut slot adjustments. I’ve read a bunch and seen people saying their mandos...
  19. Re: G Strings on Nearly New Eastman 805V-2022 Model

You’ve said you lowered the action. When you received it and the action was high how did they sound? I ask because there is a height at which a string will not yet buzz but it loses fullness and can...

    Re: Chord Shapes: Minor 7th

Matt, did you take it down? I clicked the link 3 xs and it comes up with a 404 Error- nothing at this location.
  21. Re: Have y'all known this all along? (re: upstrokes)

“ Can not get tone comparable to that of the other strings. Weak, unclear, no resonance.”
I know you’ve had it set up, however, if you get clear notes on the A string, are no notes clear on the E?...

    Re: Dave Peters

Thanks so much for posting this. I am new to mandos and simply live every single song. What a great player. What great players! Such a loss. Stellar album. Most enjoyable I’ve heard this far.
    Does...
  23. Re: New player: a lot of pain in the knuckle of my left hand

I will have issues with my thumb depending on where strap height holds an instrument. For me, if it’s up too high I’m ok while playing but suffer later as the inflammation begins. I can no longer...
  24. Re: A Loar Story with Darren Nicholson: June 13, 1923 Gibson F-5

    Gorgeous sound!
  25. Re: Who Has a Northfield F5-S with Airloom case?

Thank you, Dennis. I will take you up on that. I do agree it is a nice sounding and playing instrument. That was never a question.
    Cheers.
