    Re: Playing for tips

I remember, back in the late 1970s, one of my professors, a violist, stated that he didn't open his case for less than $25.00. That was a reasonable fee for a short gig in those days. I did some...

Re: String recommendations for vintage Stradolin

I've had good luck with the J-62s on my Strad-O-Lins. If I can't get those, the Martin M-400s work, also...same gauges. I used the Martins for years before I found the J-62s.

Which is why you use a small, cheap electric screwdriver and not a big power drill. It is alo much lighter and easier to handle. If you think your buttons are starting to crumble, do it by hand.

I got in a couple of the new stools a couple weeks ago. The seats are bigger around than the old ones, about 12" or more in diameter now. I use them to set cold beverages and stuff on at gigs.

Buy a Dean Markley Turbotune and a small, cheap electric screwdriver, and you'll never wind strings by hand again. #It has a smaller opening for mandolin tuners, and also works great for double bass.

I agree here. #I only take my most stable mandolins out on stage. I've been using a Korg AT-12 for 30 years, and as I can hear better than I can see, I use the sound feature for the mandolin and tune...

I've been playing mandolin for 35 years, and for quite a while I've wanted to try a mandola. The problem? None in this area to try, and I don't want to buy on spec just to find out I...
