Mazas 12 Little Duets #1 Rondo

Our son stopped by for a week+ of working from our home (a break from his NYC apartment), and brought his mando along with some easy duets. We didn't get much time, and my reading skills suck, but we...

    Re: Loars at Carterís

At some point, things enter what is essentially a collectors/antiquities kind of market, and pricing has absolutely nothing to do with their value as a musical instrument.

    Talking about a apples...

Re: What's up with that truss rod?

Belated follow-up but our son arrived for a visit today and brought his 310F. I was wrong that it was a hex nut because, as the poster discovered, it needs an Allen wrench. This one is 4mm, and...

Re: Thile using an SM57 mic

It's an SM57. There's a couple spots where you can see the name/logo, and they do have a cardioid pattern on them, too.

Spelled Rodgers on the CD sleeve. (I'm quick to notice how that name is spelled, right or wrong, as it turns out!)

I think the issue here is that they will report your sales (income) activity to the IRS over a certain level.

    Re: Apollo Mike Marshall picks

The [MM] monogram and Apollo [lyre] logo are both lightly etched into the pick. Definitely tactile, but the overall pick is polished, though not slippery in my fingers, at least.

    My very...

Re: Any Thoughts on Eastman Trutone Finish?

This is either inaccurate or a mischaracterization of the finish being used today on guitars and mandolins when done properly, such as shown by companies like Eastman, Taylor, Bourgeois, and, I'm...
  12. Re: Mandolin > K&K Twin Internal > Grace Bix - Help please

Pedals generally don't work well with passive pickups, UST or soundboard transducer, in my experience (I used to do some live recordings), so use the FX loop for all of that stuff, which should be...

Re: The Loar LM400 or LM520

For $500 there's a selection of better (IMO) makes available. If you're strumming chords, and oval hole might suit you better. I would seriously recommend buying something from one of the sponsors...

The difference between bound/unbound fingerboard is something I'm more sensitive about here in the Gulf Coast area, where our humidity swings, especially in the winter months, can be pretty drastic....

  20. Re: Looking for advice on best mandolins around 5K

If your son wants to try instruments, the best would be to go somewhere there's a good selection to sample from. Nashville is probably the most obvious choice.

You don't say where you are, but...

Try a lighter gauge? You're hitting less mass, unless you've gone pretty heavy on the strings.

  24. Re: Looking for thoughts and opinions about a bowel back mandolin

If The Loar you have is out of tune in the upper frets, itís because the bridge is not in the right place. A proper ďsetupĒ will correct that.
