I have had really good luck getting string information by calling GHS.
Charles, Not sure what I'm going to do with the neck. I was thinking about doing a basic heat press with the fretboard still attached. Why do you think that extra strip would be a problem? I just...
Tucker, Thanks. It sounds pretty good, but I never got it up to pitch. When it is done, there is no reason that it shouldn't sound as good as new.
Journeybear, I could only find a 1936-7...
Well, the news isn't good. I put some old strings on it and tensioned them to maybe 80-90% (they were really old). The action at that tension is about 12/64ths which is "just a bit too high". HA...
I have started to work on it some. My wife cleaned to old brown paint that someone had applied to the resonator cover, as well as the body off of the resonator cover. It looks like it was...
Buy a deer antler saddle from Rosa String works. I don't think it would ever sag. Might even improve the tone, but YMMV.
ProfChris. Thanks for the link on the neck reset. The process is pretty much what I expected, but the article took all of the mystery out of it and made me pretty confident that I can reset the...
Charley, Thanks. I found a site at www.notecannons.com that had a National catalog from 1936-1937 that showed this exact guitar. That's close enough for me. This site was linked at...
Anyone have a guess as to what year this was made? The headstock design seems unique in that I can't find any pictures of either tenor or 6-strings with this headstock. I have taken a quick look...
I just looked at some pictures on line and it seems that the strip under the fretboard is original. Does anyone know why?
Charley, no, thank god they didn't cut a hole in the top for the pickup. It is held on with two small screws. I intend to remove it, the adjustment knobs, and the jack. My first thought is to weld...
Last night one of the members of a band that I manage gifted me a National Tenor Resonator guitar. It needs some work, but is basically all there. From what little research I have been able to do,...
That is a very nice mandolin. It would be a "keeper" if it was mine.

Try Richie Dotson at Acoustic Box (acousticbox.com). He is a well respected master luthier.
Reach out to OME and ask. I know the business is for sale, but they might still be around to answer your question.
Cowboy Waltz
The height of the nut seems to suggest that it was played with a slide. It does appear home made, and it it certainly unique. Good luck with the resto. Please post pics. as you progress with it.
I use D'Addario XT (11-40 - medium) on my Eastman 305. I like the tone and the longevity.
Buy an Eastman from the Mandolin Store. You will not be disappointed.
I put Grovers on my Eastman 305. They fit well and work nicely, but were a bit over $50, but not much.
Thanks everyone. I appreciate your inputs.
What is the preferred bit to use with a rotary tool to cut saddle slots in an acoustic guitar bridge? I have been cutting through slots with a saw, but am ready to try using my rotary tool to cut...
Buy an Eastman 305 from the Mandolin Store. I bought mine from them about 3 years ago and have been very pleased. They did a good setup, and it has always played easily and sounded good. While I...
The installed tuners turned out to be VERY stiff. I don't think I have ever seen a set this bad. I took them off and tried to free them up, but failed miserably. I used WD-40 and many, many...
You may need to reduce the size of each image. Pictures that are too large will not download to MC.
