Yes, it is fairly loud. As you have found with your newly acquired mandolin, there is much more sustain. I too have used J74's on my Gibson and I liked GHS medium monels on it as well, but the Silk...
I will 2nd Mercedes NM's recommendation of the GHS Silk and Steel. I also have a 1912 A-4 and have found those strings to sound very good.
Hi Sue
You can check the schedule of live events at Court Square Theater in Harrisonburg. They have a variety of shows.

Hey Derik
I recently acquired an '04 Bridger F-style. Thus far I am liking it very much! It is a lovely instrument that plays easily and has a somewhat unique sound to me. It is a nice, warm tone...
You may want to check out Drum and Strum in Warrenton, VA.

If you like your Pono you can keep your eyes open for the shorter scale model. I certainly enjoy mine with the tenor size body and 21" scale!
While not a Mid Missouri, I did use them when I had a Cripple Creek, oval hole flat top mandolin and I really liked them on that mandolin. I am currently using them on a teens A-4 and enjoying them...
I could be mistaken but I believe that is Michael Dubova out of Crozet, VA.
That is a great fern indeed! And from 1970!
Thanks for sharing CB and I will agree with you, they are one of my favorites. I can put on the MO playlist anytime and enjoy! The songwriting is excellent and the vocals from both are pleasing! He...
+1 on the TKL arch top case. I recently acquired a teens A-4 and the TKL is a very good fit.
I am not sure anyone wants to hear my playing and not sure I have ever recorded anything that others have listened to! No way I could do the instrument justice but I did know that this question would...
As this thread has been resurrected, here are a few current photos of #66! It is a wonderful instrument that I acquired in October.
Hey lottarope! I have had no luck with facebook, email or phone number I was given. Please share if you find he is still working/building and have a contact!
Please change my username to Gene Lewis!
Thank you!

I certainly enjoy the tone and playability of my Old Wave oval. I believe it was modeled after a teens Gibson and, for me, a pleasure to play. It likely does not qualify as "upper tier" as you...
That would be the one! Yes, it was priced right and a very nice mandolin! Thanks for sharing the link to build pictures! I am assuming Chris is no longer building.

I see Chris Stanley is still in the database and that led me to his facebook page. I noticed it had not been updated for a couple years but sent him a message with no response. I found and email...
I have been using them on my f hole mandolin for a year or so and I do like them. As mentioned already, they are not as bright as the J74's but a warmer sound. I do believe they are easier under the...
I have had a TKD Falcon I purchased used about 18 months ago for $800. I have been very happy with it and it is still all I really need....but I have others! I agree with the above comment that you...
Check out the Ordinary Pub on Broughton St. for some great food! Make sure to try the Pork Belly Donut Slides as an app and then try not to get a second order for your main course!!
I was fortunate to catch them here in VA several weeks ago! Good show and they were very happy talking with folks during breaks and after the show. A great benefit of music in a small venue!
You may also try Fret Mill in Roanoke. They offer lessons and may know of someone in the NRV.
That is a tough one to answer as I have not had it long and, although it was listed as "used", I notice no wear. So, no sweat on it yet and it has mostly been played indoors and on the deck. I can...
