I have not found anything better than Renaissance wax. It's a UK import and a bit pricey, but you can find it online. From Wikipedia website, " Renaissance wax is a brand of microcrystalline wax...

Tru-Oil Vs. Crimson Guitar Penetrating oil

I have had great success with Tru-Oil, but it does take a long tome to cure. Has anyone tried the faster drying Crimson Guitar Oil? I would like to know how it compares to Tru-Oil.

    Thanks!

Re: Schaller Grand Tune Tuning Keys

Thanks for all the input guys. I believe I resolved the issue. Years ago I remembered an old watchmaker telling me to mix 3 in 1 oil thinned with lighter fluid and apply just a drop on each gear. ...

Re: Schaller Grand Tune Tuning Keys

The only tuning keys I have found to be better than Grovers (unless you got the money for Waverlys) are Rubner. Unfortunately, they are still not available for F-5.

Re: Schaller Grand Tune Tuning Keys

The Schaller Grand Tune for mandolin need a .348 reamer for their bushings. The Waverlys are slightly smaller requiring a .328, so going from Waverly to Schaller should not be a problem. Not exactly...

    Re: Grover F5 Tuners difference

Ah, case closed. I just got a response back from StewMac. This is the way Grover distinguished between worm over and worm under. 309fn's are worm over. 309fvn's are worm under. Seems of late...

    Re: Grover F5 Tuners difference

Well, StewMac shows the FNs in both worm over or worm under. The FVNs I have are worm under. Perhaps that is the difference. The FVNs only come in worm under, while the 309FNs come in both...

    Re: Grover F5 Tuners difference

Yes, I know the V is for vintage, but physically they look the same and the specs are the same. Could it be that Grover has just dropped the V and they are the same as the 309FN's?
