    Re: Wish it was true

First of all, thanks for all of your responses. I’ve been doing some research, and I’m more confused as ever.
Is a mandolin tuned to a key? Of course we can’t use a capo like a guitar.
    The song...
  2. Poll: Re: Just starting out -- Should I really learn to "read music"?

What a wonderful question. When I starred playing guitar, there was no internet, no training videos, etc.
Just vinyl records. When CD’s came out, I could use the A/B option to play a few notes over...

    Wish it was true

How can I tune my mandolin to match this song? Will it work?
I’ve been playing my new Eastman 505 for a few months, and absolutely love it.
I have to switch back to my guitars so I don’t lose all...

Poll: Re: How often do you tune your Mandolin?

You were very lucky to see him in person. I’m a big fan of the early Jefferson Airplane songs. The album, “Crown of Creation” was recorded in mono.
I was just too young at the time to travel to San...

Poll: Re: How often do you tune your Mandolin?

I voted every time, as it’s winter here, even in Florida, and I can tell with the temperature and humidity changes, it needs tuning on a daily basis.
Not so, as soon as the warmer weather comes,...

Re: OM, What pick thickness do you use?

This is what I use also. I have thicker picks, a Gravity, and a Blue Chip 1.5mm, but I keep going back to my Dunlop Tortex .73mm.

Re: Buying an instrument you have never played

I totally agree with that. It’s always better to have one to try.

    Re: Sixties Music

    Yup, yup, and yup.
Neil young, Led Zeppelin, and Pink Floyd.
Those are what I’m learning/playing now.
They sound great on the mandolin.
(Don’t hold that against me.) Hehe. To each his or her...

Re: Buying an instrument you have never played

I’ve only bought one Mandolin, and it was from Elderly. Sight unseen.
I’ve very happy with it, and it came with a great set up.
Would there have been better ones there if I went there and tried...

    Re: Cleaning an old fretboard

I’ve used a product called Flitz on the frets. I think it’s made in Germany, but is available in the U.S.
Not for the fretboard though. Just metal parts.

    Re: Battle of Evermore

It wouldn’t play for me, but I’m on an iPad.
I’ll check later on my computer. I’d like to hear it.

    Re: Blue chip picks

You know, after a few days, that Blue Chip is sounding better.
I’ve also bought a few Gravity picks to try out.
I do feel that I like the thinner picks though, but that might change.
    I have a...

    Re: Battle of Evermore

When I read the op’s post, I thought it was mine! The same questions I would have asked.
I received my Eastman MD505C about a month ago, sight unseen. I’m very, very happy with it. It came set up...

    Re: Blue chip picks

I’ve been playing my new Blue Chip TAD-1R 50 pick for a few days now.
I had been using a Dunlop Tortex 73mm. When playing them back to back, I find the Blue Chip to give a
    warmer sound, a bit...

    Re: Blue chip picks

I just received my Tad-1R-50. Is there a side I need to use, as the bevels are different on both sides.
It’s a right hand. What’s the difference between the right hand and left hand?
    I’ve...

    Re: Vintage Martin vs. Gibson

Should I look at any of these?
1935 Martin Style 15, 1951 Martin Style 2-15 or a 1962 Martin Style 2-15 mandolin. All of these instruments are in great shape and come equipped with hard shell...
  19. Re: What weight string comes stock on the Eastman MD505?

I just had an Eastman MD505C delivered a few days ago, and their website says that the strings are D'Addario XT Phosphor Bronze 1140.
That was on Dec 8th 2022.

Re: Frank Solivan and ToneSlabs picks

I have a BC on its way. I’ve been using a heavy guitar pick now. I wonder what the difference will be.
    It’s a TAD50-1R. I hope I made a good decision. I can always exchange it later on.

    Re: Eastman tailpiece

Thanks. I’m having so much fun with this little guy. I’ve played guitar for 40 years, and this is a new experience for me.
I like it. I’m learning “Losing my religion” now. I think it’s going well.

    Re: Eastman tailpiece

Well, then I won’t have to worry. In retrospect, Eastman wouldn’t use that tailpiece if it caused strings to break.
I just had some concerns about it.

    Eastman tailpiece

Greetings to all, as this is my first post. I’ve been reading the topics here for a few weeks, in anticipation of my MD505C that I received two days ago.

Looking at the tailpiece, it is pressing...
