Do any of you use steam bending for your sides? Seems like it would be easy to steam the wood in a length of pipe and then bend it around a mold.
I think your ruler is warped. :)
I see there is still room in Don Kawalek's Mandolin Building Workshop. Yall should check this out. I had a great time last year, made some wonderful friends and built a professional quality...
Great Workshop, Excellent Instruction and lots of fun! You will come home with a very nice instrument.
This is a really fun and informative workshop. Don is a great teacher and a super nice guy. The nightly after-party atmosphere is worth the trip.
Anybody out there used Aspen for a top wood. Our Lowes has some nice looking pieces.
Tuned in fourths? Shows how little I know about these things.
Great discussion going on here. Doghouse basses sound awesome but I'm considering some kind of fretted mandobass tuned GDAE.
Love mine.
Anybody out there know where I could find some plans to build a mandobass?
I just started a couple of years ago at 40-41. I noodled on my own for a year or so and then decided to find a teacher and start lessons. I absolutely recommend taking lessons from a respected...
Mandolin, Drum-set, whitewater kayaking
I have played drums in a cross-over electric blues/Cajun/Zydeco band for many years. I really enjoy the style. Haven't tried mandolin with them yet but hopefully soon.
Blooh-a-looh-a-looh-a-looh
Dad and I had a great time. Our octave turned out better than either of us ever expected. Now we will inlay an L in the headstock, expose the truss rod end and create the cover. I'm also...
Who all is going to Don Kawalek's Mandolin building workshop next week? 2 or 3 people replied to an earlier post, just wondered if anybody else has signed up. I'll be making the 8-hour drive from...
Huge Kinks fan here. I've seen them 4 times and one Davies solo tour -- Such classic tunes.
The band I played in back in the day covered a lot of Kinks and Cramps tunes. we also did "Love is the...
We made 2 boxes and installed 3 plain old light sockets in each one. We use colored flood lights from the hardware store and get a good effect by pointing one box at the band and the other shining...
Got my checks mailed off today. Anxious to get this show on the road.
Busking has always intrigued me. There is a pedestrian mall here where people eat lunch during the warmer months. It would be a cool place to play but one of the vendors always has a boom=-box...
The tunes we are working on:
Billy in the Low Ground
Temperance Reel
Sailor's Hornpipe
Saint Anne's Reel
Arkansas Traveler
Blackberry Blossom
Irish Washerwoman
Red Haired Boy
Jamming-wise, would anybody like to suggest a few tunes I could work on before the workshop.
I'm building an Octave.
