Jon - I second the suggestion for the mandozine site. If you look in essential tunes\ tabledit files\exercises, there is a file named ScalePatternsForImprovG that is exactly what you are looking for.

I'm definitely going to keep learning new ones as well as work on making the current ones sound better.
One cool thing about creating your own is that whatever you play is exactly right.
I totally get that.
I've started to notice how a lot of the tunes I have learned begin to converge, and how, if I lose concentration I can easily start playing the end of a different song because...
My new favorite tune to play is Amanda's Reel. That's pretty new, is it not?
Here is a rough version I played into my smart phone during the above referenced noodling. Until someone tells me the correct name, I give you...

Mark,
That's definitely the plan. I just need to find the time to make a decent recording first.
I am already anticipating the response, "oh that's the Plagiarist's Reel", or " Louie Louie's...
I figured this is the best place to post about this topic.
I find myself, of late, coming up with all sorts of new (to me anyway) tunes on my Jacobson #34. A lot of this activity begins to take...
Very nice. Love the vibe.
They shrink? I don't know how you guys walk around with those things.
Here is one more photo. These Rubner tuners are purdy.

Marty took these. His photos are incredible as well.
Padauk base with ebony saddle. I paraphrase, but Marty offered it as an option "because we can." As many of you have already seen, Marty has an amazing eye for the aesthetic. When he suggested...
I asked Marty to build me a mandolin that I would use primarily for playing Celtic music. I couldn't be happier with the final product.
For your viewing and listening pleasure.

I think I see where you went wrong. It was probably inevitable that you would end up an artist when you attended Collage instead of College.
Thanks for all of this information. Assuming I start recording more in the near future, I can see myself dropping some dough on a few good microphones.
The new MAS (Microphone Acquisition...
I am pretty sure I have that same strap and mine fits over the end pin without any issues.
MP3 Rocket is a free tool that lets you copy the audio from youtube vids as mp3 files. I just use transcribe at that point.
Almeria - Do you have any experience with mics modded by Michael Joly? The first clip on the link below sounds pretty amazing to me and purports to be a KM84 with an Oktava Modded MK-012.

I just purchased an rme ufx myself. Any recommendations for mics for recording mandolin and acoustic guitars?
You can capture the video as an mp3 and use one of the other slow downer tools that have more speed settings.

One more here. :)
Jim - I see from another thread that you have Jesper Rubner's mandolin improvisation book. My observation above is from the pentatonic licks in his book. Check it out and you'll see what I mean.
If you analyze pentatonic licks (patterns is probably a better description), they generally begin on either the Root, Third, Fifth, or Octave(root). The sequence is really whatever sounds good to...
Thanks Foldedpath.
There was definitely something wrong with my disc. The tracks I downloaded from Mel Bay sound great.
