    Re: Secure Endpin?

It's an unfortunate issue but there are literally dozens of answers as to what to do and they will all be posted over the next few days.

My favorite is what I call the Hans Brentrup method as Hans...

    Re: Bowl Backs

There are a whole lot of less than exciting mandolins in every mandolin style in the world but if you're looking for a new bowlback mandolin look at Brian Dean's mandolins.

I can almost hear Scott's answer right now. Here is what it has always been. This is a common misconception.

    Re: Crossrock Vintage wood case

I have some of their guitar cases and they are decent. Don't let that vintage tag lull you into thinking you can throw an early Gibson A style in there. It looks like the headstock would be laying on...
  5. Re: Mandolin Identification Gibson A Oval Hole

Be very careful buying a new case. These have very short necks and most modern cases don't accommodate or protect them well.

Here is a current thread that describes the issue.
  6. Re: Care with old mandolins and modern cases...

This has been an issue that comes around every few years. Years back the solution for the A styles was a $25.00 Musicians Friend hard case. Then they changed the design and ruined that. Jim Garber...
  7. Re: Mandolin Identification Gibson A Oval Hole

To add to what everyone else has observed, the case looks original but the handle has been replaced.

Re: Is this a Depression-era kit mando?

It wouldn't have been built from a kit but it could have been part of the business model of instruments that were sold door to door including a lesson plan. It's a pretty common instrument.

    Re: China mandolin supply

Drivers leaving the transportation industry is not new. I spent 20 years in the long haul trucking business. In the 90's we had a 300% turn over rate. Some of those people left the industry for jobs...

The same folks that sold this $30.00 A back in 2019. It's still being played.

    Re: Beware the mighty doubleneck

Several years ago I bought a double neck mandolin and guitar that somebody in Oregon built. I couldn't get rid of that bad boy fast enough. This is probably a better instrument than that was :)
  13. Re: Vega cylinderback with no logo ... made for the trade?

Unfortunately that happens at times when there is a generational change in ownership. It pretty much doomed Mandolin Brothers because Stan was a larger than life walking encyclopedia of knowledge. It...

    Re: Thile can't chop chords

In the orchestra world that was popular as Bill Monroe came to prominence part of what the mandolin did was emulate the snare drum.

Post a picture of the case. There are a few ways to go including finding a donor case, suit case or otherwise, that is period correct.

I've owned a few of those including one the same year. The fretboard wear shows it's been played. The scar on the top is probably from someone leaving a vinyl strap across the top in the case. Vinyl...
