    Re: Carpal Tunnel surgery?

Good to hear she had such a strong recovery. Keep picking!
  2. Re: Sellerís Remorse - 2008 custom Weber Fern

It's amazingly rare that someone succeeds in stumping the Cafe Brain Trust. Here, Scott himself appeared to hold the answer. :)
  3. Re: Speaker size for 4-string emando amplifier

So Roland makes things like the JC 40 which is essentially a clean amp witha chorus effect, one of them has 6.5" speakers. Is this a good thing, or something to steer away from with an emando?

    Re: OT-ish: fiddle pickin' ?

As a kid, I didn't know what a mandolin was, but I used to pick my violin with a guitar pick and play along with Beatles and Moody Blues records, etc. My friends joked about it but I was able to...

Re: The newest hot mandolin accessory!

My son lives in Rochester, MN, and I'm always in shock at the temperatures he faces this time of year.

Re: The newest hot mandolin accessory!

Then, I'll need on for me that matches my mandolin's. :)
  7. Re: Speaker size for 4-string emando amplifier

It looks good but I have a beer budget with champagne tastes.
  8. Re: Speaker size for 4-string emando amplifier

I'll let you know how the hotrails sound when I get an amp. :)
  9. Re: Speaker size for 4-string emando amplifier

Hartley Peavey used to tell me that speakers were speakers and the only difference between most brands were "the type of swamp water they chose to bless them with." Yes, that's also a subjective...
  10. Speaker size for 4-string emando amplifier

I play a Kentucky e300 electric 4 with a set of Bill Lawrence hotrails. I've read in discussions here over the years that the higher tuning of a mandolin lends itself to amplifiers with smaller...
  11. Re: Replacement pickups for 8 string Chinocaster?

Bill Lawrence makes a nice set of hotrail-style double-coils that are easy to install. Billlawrencepickups.com
  12. Re: Strings wound wrong direction around tuners..

If you have a lot of extra strings handy, you can try to fix it. If it were me, I'd just grin and bear it until it's time to replace them again. Every time you tune it, it will remind you to do it...

Re: Eastwood Mando Magic - Opinions?

I have a Kentucky e300 four-string. I'm going to have to try out one of these eight-strings. I love the four-string, but it's a bit too much of a "little guitar."

    Re: Eastman 305 string preference?

I just put D'ad Monels on my 605 and it's singing now.

    Re: Dunlop Nickel Wound Strings

I haven't been in the business side of things for years, but there used to be only two big string factories in the US (GHS and Daddario), making most of the other brands (but not all).

    Re: Orchestra

I'm a member of the Long Island Mandolin and Guitar Orchestra. We meet on Tuesday evenings and rehearse for an hour and a half. We play a variety of classical, ethic, jazz and folk-style music. Once...

Seems to be back up. Some really nice looking picks up there. They beckon me.

    Re: If picks could talk!

I'm not a fan of Golden Gate or Dawg picks, but a lot of folks are. You either love them or don't.

    Re: If picks could talk!

A friend has an antique tortoise pick. I've never tried it. I've seen others on the cafe write that they are similar to Casiene picks.
  21. Re: My favorite Red Bear pick just broke after a decade :(

I was up on the Red Bear Trading site. The new chips do look very good. I'll put that on my Christmas List (I'm willing to wait for one).

    Re: If picks could talk!

So no one has a worn pick? This came from a discussion with a guitarist friend about it showing my history.

    If picks could talk!

    Show us your pick mojo!

I bought this pick a dozen or more years ago after reading about them on the Cafe. I once lost it in the couch and went without it for two full years. My wife was pissed...

Re: Your favorite mandolin tuning tips?

Put your strings on carefully and correctly or, better yet, pay for a pro set-up. It's far too easy to break a new set of strings and far to difficult to tune a badly strung instrument. My guitar...
