Try John Pearse 2160 (12,15,26,40) or 2170 (12,16,26,40) phosphor bronze strings with a BlueChip CT55 pick. This should help fatten up the treble strings.

I use John Pearse Phosphor Bronze 12,15, 26, 40 on my Kimble F5 and 12,16, 26, 40 on my Kentucky KM 650. Been using these strings for several years and no adverse impacts on the instruments. I also...
Practice with a metronome or beat machine. Set the tempo above what you are comfortable playing. Crash and burn and improvement will follow. Keep turning the dial up and eventually include practice...
Evening Prayer Blues - One of Monroe’s versions
I learned this version as well and highly recommend the lesson. His by ear lessons are a great learning experience and reasonably priced.
For the past couple of years, 2007 Kimble F5 style. A really good mandolin; sounds great, looks great and plays great.
If you do a search in the classifieds you will see one with an asking price of $2,550.
James tailpieces are the best ones I have used. Easy to use and look good although I think they will tarnish in time.
I believe Frank Wakefield wrote the tune New Camptown Races.
One sign I use is an electronic tuner. When the strings’ pitch starts to fluctuate around the note rather than hold the note on the tuner, I generally change the strings shortly thereafter.
This is a really great mandolin tune. I learned the tune from a transcription by AlanN in the key of A that I got off the Mandolin Cafe. Thanks for sharing your transcription.
I retired June 1, 2020. I purchased a 2007 Kimble F5 off the Cafe, in July of 2020, as a retirement gift to myself. I upgraded from a Kentucky KM-650 (which I still have). I play the Kimble a...

My very first mandolin, which I only played for a very short period of time, was a cheap Aria A5 style. Bad neck and high action....
Given the number and geographic dispersion of higher end mandolin builders and retailers, I would think that more than 50% are bought without the buyer having the opportunity to play the mandolin...
Assuming it would fit, you might want to get a James tailpiece and the problem will go away.
With the strap over my right shoulder, I developed a shoulder/right arm soreness. When I switched the strap to my left shoulder the problem went away and hasn’t returned.
Sounds even better than it looks! I have #124 that sounds very much like your former mandolin. I think these mandolins are a bargain when looking at the prices being charged by some comparable...
Just watched the full documentary. A great way to spend an hour and thirty-one minutes. Thanks for sharing this.
Well played and a beautiful sounding instrument! Thanks for posting.
Gordon received the Order of Canada for his contributions to roots music in Canada. His is a Master Fiddler, composer, mandolin player, writer, and a great instructor. He is the real deal. I have...
There is a tab with “The Mandolin of Bill Monroe, a detailed analysis taught by Sam Bush”, Video 2. However, it is copyright protected and would be a violation of the Cafe’s guidelines to publish it.
Thanks for posting.
Being from Halifax, I am embarassed to say that I hadn't heard of them until your post. I enjoyed their set and Tiny Desk is a great way to broaden one's listening experience.
I ended up demoing the Widex Moment for the past two weeks and decided to purchase the Widex Moment Sheer 440 yesterday.
I had the demo set dialed in fairly well for mandolin by tweaking the Music...
I tried several over the years but currently use the Harrison strap. I am very pleased with it and this will likely be my last strap. The only place I found them for sale was through Northfield...
I don't agree that it is set-up with my instruments. All my instruments are set-up by very highly regarded luthiers and play very well.
It is usually the open A strings on the mandolin that go...
