Re: Guitar Body Octave Mandolin for Irish?

I’m pretty sure that Mandolin Bros. shut down years ago.

    Re: Bouzouki Fingering

    Try:
    Index - Fret 1&2
    Middle - 3
    Ring - 4
    Pinky - 5&6

In reality you're gonna have to think a lot about shifting your hand position up (and down).

  3. Re: Is there a mando equivalent to Flatpick Guitar Magazine?

There used to be Mandolin Magazine. They went out of business seven years ago.
  4. Re: Rigel Mandolins not responding emails - tailpiece question

I just checked with Gold Tone about Rigel style tailpieces. They are out of them.
  5. Re: Free Download Codes - The Meadow Mouse & The Mandolin

    Hi Annette,

This is very kind of you.

To honor your art, and help support your offer to others, I've just bought the book from Apple Books to read to my new grandson.

    Thanks,
    Pete
  6. Re: What are some good "Guitar Body Octave Mandolin makers out th

I'll add Gary Lewandowski (Cedar Mountain Mandolins ). He just made this one for me.

  7. Re: Practicing the swing feel for Irish music

Another word for this idea of swing is "Lift". You might have better luck finding some info using this as a search term instead of swing.

Basically Irish music is dance music. Lift is the pulse...

  9. Re: Using Tabledit to transpose from Manadolin GDAE to Mandola CG

Ensure that you have you have the Impact "Fingerings" checkbox selected. This is in the Score->Instument dialog box under the Tuning tab. This is how you change the tab and not the notes.

    Also,...

    New GBOM taking shape

Gary Lewandowski of Cedar Mountain Mandolin has sent me a few shots of a new GBOM he's making for me.

It's gonna be the big sister to this mandolin.

    Re: "tinny" A string?

My guess (and only a guess) is that the nut string slot is a little tight. I has one mandolin that produced a tinny (on the A string no less) sound for this reason.

  13. Re: Recommendation? Light/Medium Strings for CGDA 16.5" scale man

Use a set of D’Addario Octave Mandolin strings. That’s what I use on my Mandola.

Re: Guitar strings on a GBOM?

Sarah might like different gauges than those found in standard sets. That is probably why she she is using guitar strings (most likely bought individually). I have a zouk and and an octave. I like...

Re: D'Addario Strings - Ask Us Anything

I’m sure that this has been asked before, but, is there any chance of getting monel guitar strings from D’Addario? I’ve got an old jazz box that is crying out for them.

    I know that Martin makes...

And, one post by Marty shows how much I don’t know about any of this.

I know what those words mean individually but not when they are put together in that order. :^ p

Re: Trillium Octave mandolin string gauge

For the trussed, look inside the sound hole. It should be just under the soundboard. It's really hard to get a good look at, so you your fingers to find it.

    Re: Eastman Octave MDO-305

    It's cast and solid.

I would save your cash unless you want to use ball end strings (or if you just don't like it).

    Re: Electromagnetic output from pickups

It could be lots of things: type of pickups, impedance (how “hot”) of pickups, types of pots, capacitors, wiring, etc.

To solve it, I would put a boost pedal as the first pedal for the Mando.

    Re: Expensive mandolins

Expensive and "great sounding" are subjective. Beautiful is also subjective.

I said that I would never spend over $1000 for a guitar or $1500 for a mandolin. That resolution was broken several...
  23. Re: Third string out of tune below the fifth fret

Looks like the compensation is way off. Those are all wound strings. The bridge should step up from the C (farthest towards the neck) to the A (closest to the neck) instead of the up-up-down-up...
  24. Re: Third string out of tune below the fifth fret

Check if your bridge saddle is turned around.

Since the issue gets worse the more you move towards the bridge I would guess that's where your issue is.
  25. Re: Moving between Irish and bluegrass fiddle tunes

I would tell her to listen to a couple of sets before joining in. Get a feel for how the Trad people are playing, listen to how and where they emphasize notes, and then join in.
