  1. Re: Identifying bowlback mandolin and question about black inside

I have a Carl Fischer label bowlback, likely made by Lyon & Healy "for the trade" around the turn of the last century. The inside is covered in white tape similar in width to the black tape in...

I can confirm that Globe was, indeed, a New York distributor -- not a manufacturer. But have no other clues -- sorry.

Re: Old New Guy -Any second day tips?

When you play, don't let the fingers on your left hand fly off the fretboard. Try to keep them close, even when they're not pressing on a string.

Also when you play, don't let your pick get far...

  8. Re: Hello! I am new and in need of some bowlback advice.

Suzuki mandolins borrowed a lot of their form, style and looks from Raffaele Calace (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Raffaele_Calace), who made a big splash in Japan. If you want one, you can find one...
  9. Re: Who thinks this is really an refurbished antique Italian mand

He mentions that he has sold more than 1,000 instruments in Taiwan. Very likely, that's because they were made in Taiwan.

I contacted the seller today. He corrected the listing. I wish it really was a Style 20 because I'd be interested in buying it.

    Martin Style 20 mando? Mislabeled?

I found this "Martin Style 20" mandolin on eBay.

Problem is, I believe it is a Martin Style 15, from about 1930. Either way, the price is still pretty good -- for now.

Re: Seeking Info on a Bowlback

The instrument could well be one of Lyon & Healy's creations for "the trade." I've seen very similar ones with American Conservatory labels glued inside.
