Re: Eastman md 304 vs 314

I think this is the exact one I played:

Re: Eastman md 304 vs 314

An F will be noticeably heavier than an A but still not very heavy compared to, say, a guitar. I wouldn't worry about the extra weight.

With respect to the Morris recommendations, I also have one...

Re: 2-point Orpheum branded Strad-O-lin on eBay

Most states charge sales tax on services, which is what shipping is. I would be more surprised if they didn't tax shipping.
  4. Re: Embarassing Question - Which Mandolin to Bring to Jam?

I'm honestly surprised nobody makes a decent $2-300 flat top. Seems like it should be a no brainer for one of the entry level asian makers.
  5. Re: Embarassing Question - Which Mandolin to Bring to Jam?

I've never heard someone comment negatively on another's instrument in a jam. I got a really nice mando about 3 months into learning and I got nothing but compliments on its sound and look and...
  6. Re: How often should my mandolin need to be tuned?

With those style of tuners, I think that's the only place you could put it, but I think it would work!
  7. Re: How often should my mandolin need to be tuned?

You could get one of the Daddario micro tuners that attach to a screw on one of the tuning machines, then it doesn't show at all on the front of the instrument:

Re: Northfiled Ox stand for guitar?

I love the Hercules stands. I have some of the single stands for guitar and mandolin and a rack for my electric instruments.
  9. Re: How often should my mandolin need to be tuned?

If fretting a note always puts you out of tune, you should check your intonation. Your bridge position is likely slightly off.
  10. Re: How often should my mandolin need to be tuned?

I always tune the string closer to me with the electronic tuner then tune the other string to the first by ear - when the oscillations in the pitch smooth out and eventually dissappear is what I...

Re: Blue Chip CT 55 versus Dunlop Prime Tone 1.4

I like primetones for my guitar but I wish they had a rounded triangle, the large sharp triangle or the rounded asymmetric shape that the Primetones come in are not my preferred shape for mandolin.

    Appalachian Picking Society

Just stumbled on this anthology album on Spotify, it's pretty awesome. Figured I'd share.

Re: The Loar 310brb vs 590ms

I probably wouldnt; the upgrade probably would not be huge. Lessons would get you a lot more improvement, or save your dollars for a big upgrade instead of a little one.

If you have a chance to...

    Re: Consignment Advice

I don't think GC does consignment, but they will buy your gear (for significantly less than you'd get selling it yourself)

    I like this idea!
I use this one and it feels by far the most solid of any single-instrument stand I've used or seen....

    Loving my Flatiron

About a month ago I traded my Kentucky for a Flatiron 2MB.

I gotta say, I am absolutely loving it! It definitely has a very different vibe from my F-style. To me, the F-style sounds great at...

Re: String Gauges for Neck Without Truss Rod

The builder who made my F style calls it a "non-adjustable steel bar for stiffener" which seems apt.

    Re: A Different Busking Question

I've been seeing buskers with Venmo or Cashapp links and QR codes more often lately - seems like a good work around for the "nobody carries cash any more" problem.

    Re: Washburn mandolins

I played a new one in a store a couple weeks ago, the playability was fine and it didn't have any flaws I could see. I didn't like the sound though. Thin and very quiet to my ear.

    Re: Bravo D'Addario XS Strings!

Me too. I use XT mediums on my F style, and I'd like to put a set on my Flatiron too, which does best with light strings.

Re: Mid Missouri mandolin construction M-0

Congrats on the new mandolin! I've heard nothing but good things about Big Muddy.

I'd also like to ask to yall that have owned one: how different do these big muddies sound than a pancake style...
