    Re: Eastman md305 vs md305

It's been a while. I figured I would update the thread. I ended up picking up an older Weber Absaroka in trade for a guitar. It's probably more mandolin than I'll ever need or deserve.

    Thanks so...

    Re: Eastman md305 vs md305

So Chris, I also bought an AC120 from a student recently. Unreal how much guitar it is for the money. I have several Martins and a Santa Cruz. But I really enjoy playing the Eastman. I use it for...

    Re: Eastman md305 vs md305

So I actually have a little history with mandolins. I owned an Eastman md315 and an md515, but only because I was in a position to acquire them for friends a few years ago. I never got to know those...

    Re: Eastman md305 vs md305

These are a couple of the ones I am looking at. The pickup in the 605 might prove useful to me as well. It sounds like the 605 might have nicer appointments than the 305 but have similar playability...

    Re: Eastman md305 vs md305

    Thanks for the replies.

Yes. I messed up my title. I meant to compare the 305 to the 605.

    Eastman md305 vs md305

I apologize if this is a bit of a lazy question. I'm considering buying one of these (or maybe an md 515) from one of the Cafe sponsors.

I can see pretty easily what I'm getting in terms of...

I'm finding that some responses to ads I have up are going to my junk folder in my hotmail account. I'm not sure how to fix it. I try to check my junk mail folder daily now. It's possible I missed...

Re: What are some easy klezmer tunes?

This is such a great thread! I have the Mel Bay book. I'm looking at this as a guitarist and accompanist. I play with a good mandolin player, and we want to add some klezmer to our routine. Lots here...

    Essential listening? Klezmer!

I always love it when I hear klezmer music. I have the Mel Bay book of easy klezmer tunes.

What are some essential albums and/or artists?

    Re: Octave Mandolin purchase

I bought the Hathway. Cedar top and really rich, warm tone like I had hoped. The body looks like it might be rosewood. It is stained like a rosewood on a guitar, but the grain/figure is a little...

    Daniel,

Thanks! That's a lot of help. I'm hoping I get to try this one out.

I'll send a pm with my email. I would love to hear the CD!

    Octave Mandolin purchase

    Hi,

It has been a long time since my last post, but I know this is my best source for good information.

I'm probably going to look at a used Paul Hathway OM. I drove around to a few music...
  16. Re: those who have went with a wider nut width-your experience pl

Being mostly a guitarist, I thought I'd prefer a wider nut. But the mandolin is just a different instrument altogether. I didn't like the wider neck on he instrument had, and eventually I sold it.

Re: Salvaging a bad mando for slide?

There's no label. I had contacted Walt to find out what this is.

At the moment, I am still looking into fixing this with someone locally. I'm taking it to have someone else look at it today.

Re: Salvaging a bad mando for slide?

Btw. Now I feel bad about my thread title. This isn't a bad mando. It could be a wonderful instrument. It just needs some serious work to get it there. Or maybe it'll be wonderful for slide work....

Re: Salvaging a bad mando for slide?

Thinking about that Walt, but it appears the neck has multiple issues. From the nut to the 2nd fret the ebony actually rises up a bit toward the nut. Then the board is flat to the body. Then the...

    Sam is just flat awesome!
