I couldn't really hear it but I would guess the basic E chord was 422x or 422O, regular D slid up two frets. Maybe Levon plays b, c#, e over and over while the band alternates between E and A chords.
Thanks for the help, everyone. But it was a male vocalist. I heard it on KBOO in Portland and I am trying to backtrack through them. Perhaps a local artist?
Thanks for all the help, but this was a highly acoustic version I heard with rhythm mando that was really cool.
I heard an outstanding version of "I Can't Stand the Rain" on the radio a few weeks ago. Male vocalist, great rhythm mando. Does anyone know who this could be?
I remember seeing them in concert in 1997. John Hiatt says, "The mandolin sounds so good we are going to let him start this off by himself." They played "Cry Love".
I like Steve Earl's intro to...
I really liked Mick Goodrick's idea of starting by learning to play on one string. You really understand what is going on that way. I suspect some players play chords and melodies all their lives and...
Was there really a Beau Bridges Show? There does not seem to be mention of it anywhere on the web.
I looked at this a little more. Essentially, what you do is add 9 to every original chord, right? (Which works well in Ipanema, for sure.)
This is kinda related to the old question, "Do you play a...
Thanks, Eric. I certainly find this interesting.
If I understand this, you play related arpeggios using this scheme:
maj7 --> min7 + M3
dom7 --> min7b5 +M3
min7 --> maj7 +m3
(Hope...
Thanks for the ideas. I want to play around with using Eb at the start of the bridge instead of Gb.
As far as hearing Ipanema too much, twenty years ago I couldn't agree more. But, like several...
I never had any idea what was going on with the bridge to The Girl From Ipanema. I found Ed Byrne’s analysis on a forum, simplified it and came up with the following.
Girl From Ipanema Changes...
The ultimate cause seemed to be one or two older, permanently installed 150 ft. mic cables picking up EMI. Rane explains how mixers and other equipment have transitioned (mostly) from grounding to...
Thanks. I remember Dix Bruce saying once that if you want to get out of a rut, try playing the same tune in the same key in a different position. It takes some discipline when you know it would be so...
If you are playing "How High The Moon" in G, obviously the tune passes through several tonal centers. It start in G, moves down a whole tone to F, then to Eb.
Let's say you are playing the...
I love our Worldwide Web. I bought this book 25 years ago and when I tried to get the flexi record out by tearing along the perforation, I ripped it. Now ripping of a different sort redeems me. Thank...
I talked to the person who set up the recorder. It had two mics connected of unknown provenance each with a 40 ft. cable. Back to the RFI theory.
OK, I think the noise stops if both wired mics are disconnected. (The noise stops on its own so so disconnecting a mic and hearing the noise stop does not prove anything 100%).
Listen to the last...
I reread some of the posts. The noise seems to be on only one of the OUTPUT channels. So does that mean that the power-supply-noise-source theory is more likely?
Thanks for all the help. Is curiosity a good or bad thing? Nevermind, don't answer that. just keep thinking about this so you can help us out...
I like the idea of an unbalanced high-impedance...
Well, heck. New mixer and everything simplified and visible. The sound still occurs, but only on one channel. Mixer main out sliders do not affect it at all. But, get this. It seems it happened at...
Thanks, everyone. I like the Furman idea and will do this eventually, but I will replace the mixer first so I don't spend 3 weeks wondering if it really was the mixer. I will report back.
Well, this mixer has been in the same cabinet in a church for years. We have tried some empty-church trouble-shooting, but have not learned too much. It does come out both main output channels (the...
This is an older mixer. It is probably going to be cheaper to replace than fix. Troubleshooting has raised more questions than it has answered.
When the noise is happening (gotta scramble--it only...
It has happened both when active and dormant. What would Mackie have in the circuit after the main output sliders?
