My youngest daughter plays cello and I would like to be able to play with her on some easy pieces. So learning notation would help in that case. Thanks for the link.

Yeah I’ve learned two songs by him already in his beginner songs. I like. I’m also looking for a progressive method. He will be a go to if I want to learn songs. Amazing how many he has.
Sharon Gilchrist has a beginner course. Will check that out. Thanks for the recommendation

Will have to check this out. Thanks for the recommendation!
Hey all. So I have my new mandolin and I’ve been learning a few songs from YouTube but there doesn’t seem to be a clear concise method to any one YouTubers site other than a few lessons here and...
Well I went to the shop that had the 304 and guess who walked out of the store with it??? Yep pulled the trigger. So psyched! I kept going back and forth between the 304 and the 315, but the 304 had...
So you prefer the gloss finish over the matte? I’ve read on various sites that the matte finish on the 304 is a nitrocellulose finish. Which I thought are reserved for higher end instruments. I must...
Sound samples are so hard to judge from video to video. What are some of the main differences between an ova hole arch top versus flat top? I have long looked at the Big Muddy M11 also. So now the...
Ihor: Just checked out the Northfield Calhoun oval
Hole online. Looks beautiful. I love the understated beauty of it. How do you like it compare to your 404bk?
Wow funny you should mention the 404bk. The last few days I have really thought about the 404. The looks especially have grown on me. Plus with the better tuners and hard case. I’ve narrowed it down...
I’ve narrowed it down to the 304 and 404. A shop near me has the 304 in stock and I am planning on trying it out Saturday. But that black one is really piquing my interest. No where to try that one...
Thanks for the heads up. Aren’t oval holes by nature quieter than f holes? I don’t plan on playing bluegrass. More old time, Folk and Irish tunes.
My use for the mandolin will be for old time, Folk, Irish tunes and basically just singing with it. My goal is not bluegrass.
I was under the impression that oval hole mandolins were by nature quieter than f holes. Or is that not the case.
Does the extra ornamentation add any appreciable amount of weight?
Between a style and f style which are more comfortable to play sitting down without a strap? At this time I won’t be playing live so it will mostly be bedroom practice.
I want an oval and have narrowed it down to the Eastman 304 and 314. I especially love the matte finish. I’m wondering if there is any tone or volume difference between the two. Also as far as...
Ok I’ve thought about it more and want an oval hole but in the 300 matte finish series. Now it’s down to the 304 or 314. Is there any tone or volume difference between the two body styles. I like...
Any real world comparisons between these two models? Aside from the case what are some of the advantages of one over the other? Also thinking of the md 304 as well. Thanks all
Hi all. I am looking for an all solid wood F style mandolin. Budget is $1,000 but could bump it up a few hundred if there would be a great benefit. I’m only looking to own one mandolin. I’ve watched...
What are your thoughts on the tone of the spruce/rosewood combo? What styles do you mainly play?
This is great info thank you. Someone who uses the M11 and plays classical. It's hard to judge sound when you can't hear it in person. But having someone who is playing the same style as I'm learning...
I’ve been considering the M-11 also but was worried if t would be too dark for classical. Any thoughts on that?
Funny those are the first two on my list as well. I looked at their selection and mostly ff hole some ff hole. Like you said I'll have to just keep checking back.
The local music stores near me are your basic GC and Sam Ash. Even the mom and pop music stores have limited selection. I'm looking to try some flat tops and I was hoping someone could recommend some...
Very interesting story. I haven’t found one but thinking of commissioning one to be made. I’m looking for a very high quality oval hole flat top and this might be it. I’m currently learning classical...
