Kleins are SERIOUS tools. (or used to be)
I never considered that, about the copper vs. steel. I always wanted the smallest pair I could find so that they would fit in my case without taking up much real estate. I currently have an...

So this Photo posted by SGarrity shows Mike Seegers Fern F5, right. I'm not the authority, But doesn't this faceplate look like a '29 and not a '25. It has the "drilled" fern...
Link to previous thread without resurrecting it of same mandolin in question. https://www.mandolincafe.com/forum/threads/103107-Seeger-s-Blonde-Gibson-Fern
I got interested in Mike Seeger's fern recently. I found this as the above videos are no longer available.

I played an 84 KM-1000 when I met the late Macon Richards. My mandolin was about 5 yrs old then, but looked practically new. He said "How old is that mandolin?". I told him, he had a funny look on...
A thread is over in Bluegrass section.
can't play it either. wonder why?
Yes, the fitment of the cover ,if you have the original "Flatiron", may be difficult. There seem to be several makers of these over the years. The Prucha may be the best bet to start.
Is that front point mitered in?
A whole step up. Ouch. You may break a string but maybe not. I have seen a mandola cracked because it was tuned up almost to mandolin pitch. I've seen Mike Compton use a capo to play in an "odd"...

I always have to chime in on 1980s Kentucky mandolin discussions.
You've got a nice collection going here. This catalog of from Saga shows the Kentucky mandolins that were made at the Kasuga...
I could tell the banjo has that special great tone still. It came out some. The mandolin well...
Following comments here, I heard Ricky Scaggs had some kind of arm or hand injury. It kinda...
Yes as previously mentioned the scratched up 25 fern. 189646
I bought the LP 'Home is where the heart is' a long time ago. David's tone is iconic. His melody lines seem to almost be at the edge of what the mandolin can do. His chop is full of tone and not...
While streaming the movie "The Bookshop" I saw this in the background. I had to rewind it. It is a re-do of a Bill Monroe hatch poster made into other names. But it appears to be Monroe's pic with...
Tab can be a great tool
pros: gets even the most untrained ear to playing a tune in a short span of time. Can teach a tune as written that you don't already know.
cons: Does little for ear...
I drive several hours per day. I always listen to this podcast, and I can't wait for each episode to appear. It is really good for mandolin fans like me. Congratulations Daniel and thanks for the...
I seem to remember some of these. But can't find the threads. Are there pics of A5 conversions from re-topped A models? (My old box of A jr parts is calling at me.)
The third digit looks like a "3". (Kinda like one of those face book things that say only X percent of the population can see this.)
I played a 515CC/n about 5 months ago I was very impressed. I really liked the sound of it. A LOT. I wasn't shopping for a mandolin, I went to play around with a mandola and an octave. But I...
Scored me a set just the other day! Now how to get them on some tuners that fit my mandolin. These came from Siminoff's "yard sale". They are made for Gotoh tuners. This is an 2002 Gibson, so...
so when you plug the holes, would grain direction be important when using mahogany dowels.
There are so many hole sizes here where they look to have been mis-drilled. It seems like you may...
I listen to podcast during my commute each day. I listened. It's a good one. It's neat that you learned from Neil Rosenberg.
I listen to: Mandolins and Beer, Bluegrass Stories, Let my People...
