Having followed this thread, I nearly the posted the same as Shaun once or twice. It's awfully hard to find "the one' -- I'm not sure that I have -- and extremely difficult to achieve with one's...

Re: High Quality Short Scale Tenor Guitar?

That’s a beauty, Jim. Where did you score it? I don’t remember seeing a Fletcher used in three or four years of looking.

    Re: Waiting for mandolin setup?

You're probably right, but cooler air carries less moisture. I don't know where you acquired your mandolin, but the shift from a climate-controlled shop to your 35-50 degree Fahrenheit climate could...

    Re: Waiting for mandolin setup?

Are you humidifying? Colder winter air and dry forced heat can certainly affect your setup within a matter of a few weeks.
  8. Re: Stefan Sobell mandolins and other instruments

Missy confirmed that it’s the 11.4” small body. I did not ask for verification of the nut width.
  9. Re: Stefan Sobell mandolins and other instruments

Kevin has one over at MandoMutt:

Can anyone tell by eyeball test whether it’s a small or large body?
  10. Re: Some questions about optional features on mandolins:

A 1-3/16Ē nut might give you more room for playing melody if youíre feeling cramped with a standard 1-1/8Ē. It might also make chording more difficult if youíre already struggling to chop a...
  11. Re: What is a 12-15 Year Old Eastman MD-915 Worth?

If you bought it appropriately depreciated as a used instrument four years ago, there is no reason to think that it has lost any further value unless it suffered some damage or repair while in your...

Andy is a pretty meticulous builder. I don’t think anyone in the business makes a better Army-Navy pancake.

Here is my thread on the Alrite tribute that Andy built for me: https://www.mandolincafe.com/forum/threads/130284-Alrite-Tribute

I honestly don't know. His website has sadly not been updated...
  16. Re: Virzi inquiry - Models offered? Tonal effect?

That experience might explain why a number of people believe that the Virzi particularly benefits a mandolin with an oval hole.

    Re: Eastman 404Bk Mandolin review

There is no doubt that some fine music (and good fun!) can be made with modest instruments, and that the relative value of a superior mandolin is a personal judgment based on oneís aims and means....

  23. Re: Virzi inquiry - Models offered? Tonal effect?

I always like to return to this video by Mike Black:

Obviously, any two mandolins are different, but this pair was made by the same man on the same bench at the same time.
