Re: Dealing with a floppy G string in GDAE

It is the most difficult string to get right and I think you can only answer that question by experimenting for yourself.
It will depend on you instrument and your playing style but 38 -48 is in...

Re: My Blueridge Woes - Part III

Well that is annoying for you!
I have set up a fair few Blueridge tenors and to be honest it has always been very straight forward , personally I think they work much better with GDAE strings.

Re: My Blueridge Woes - Part III

    Wow!
I am no expert but isn’t sympathetic resonance something to do with matching the frequencies of certain notes so one string will pick up the vibrations of another string?
    I know some folk...

    Re: Tunings and string gauges

If you can say what strings you use for CGDA we can match the tension with GDAE.
    However I think a slightly lighter set than normal will suit a resonator 12p 17p (or 18w) 28w 42w.
    You might find a...

Re: My Blueridge Woes - Part II

    Perhaps you missed my post?
I still don’t get went went wrong, was the string moving so it would not stay in tune or was the pin rising?
There should not be an issue with a 42 string.

Re: My Blueridge Woes - Part II

Hi,I don’t quite get what your problem was, do you mean the bridge pins would not hold the strings in place and were rising up?
I think you string choice should at least sound ok although they are...

    Re: Blueridge BT-40

Like the majority of Blueridge instruments, the prices have risen as their reputation has become more established.
Where I live their six strings now rule the roost amongst the top musicians.
    It...

Re: A Kala Tenor success story

Always nice to see someone enjoying their tenor guitar, I also think they are great although to me yours sound a little thuddy ... I would consider somewhat lighter strings like 49 32 22 13 that...
  11. Re: Ranking old tenors (generally speaking) by brand?

You can find many post on this forum about all the available models, i find it more effective to search the forum by using goggle search and add ‘mandolin cafe’ to your search.

    GDAE seems to suit...
  12. Re: Ranking old tenors (generally speaking) by brand?

Well I don’t know what your expectations are but yes the Blueridge BR 40 T is very well suited to GDAE and is a very well made instrument.
  13. Re: Ranking old tenors (generally speaking) by brand?

What do you mean by limited?
Are you expecting a vintage Martin to sound better that say a Blueridge in some way or another?

    Re: Dubova tenor guitar

Well it depends where you want the bridge and how long the scale is but if you want a 23” scale with the bridge in the middle lower bout, then there will be an optimum size.

The bids went up to £130 but did not reach the reserve.
If he adds a postage option and quotes the scale length I think it would sell easily!
