I have a KM-150 that I bought used. The serial number makes it a 2010 mandolin. I sent an email to Saga because, like you, I had heard the series had been upgraded. I got a very kind reply which is...
The seem to constantly have a sale. Only the end date and code word change.
Toilet paper and mandolins aren't interchangeable. Don't ask me how I know that.
I'm too busy reading forums.
I have an Eastman MD 505 and use this D'addario leather strap. One end attached to the end pin and then shoe lace tied under the elevated fretboard end. Recommended by Baron Collins-Hill of...
Increasingly common on guitars. I don't play well enough to want to hear myself better.
I believe it is called "Watch Me Play Fast."
That is James from The Mandolin Store. Nice guy and obviously can really play. I've talked to him on the phone when deciding what mandolin to buy from...
The tuners on the 300 series Eastman mandolins are certainly adequate and many people use them quite happily with no modification or upgrade. While everyone agrees the 500 series have "better" tuners...
It is their reddish brown solid color (classic). The other choice, when they offer a choice, is SB, meaning sunburst.
Look at the MD 805 on this page:

Where did you find the ebony buttons for the Ping well tuners, please?
There's multiple reels?
I thought it was one reel with 36,000 different names.
I went to Tony's website, Mandolin Central, and was amazed by the pictures there. It looked like Tony lost 200 lbs, shaved his beard, and put on a suit. Amazing transformation!
Google Saga Music. Their site will have contact info. I ask some questions about my KM-150 and got quick responses.

Also, the Cash Converters web site shows a couple of Pilgrim round hole mandolins at £199 that look interesting.
The Adam Black mandolin shows a truss rod cover. The McNeela does not. That would make me believe the Adam Black was made to a higher standard and has more potential to be adjusted to a better set up.
I bought my forever mandolin in January of this year for $725. There are, of course, better mandolins in the world. But, there is no reason for me to buy one. My Eastman MD 505 is not holding me back...
Supply chain disruptions due to pandemic. Increased at home time looking for new leisure activities increasing demand for instruments equals shortage. Look at The Mandolin Store, Elderly, or Banjo...
I am pretty sure that since Jim Olson started using CNC to build his guitars he hasn't been able to sell a one of them.:)
This thread goes back a year but I am just seeing it. I was fortunate to see blues mandolin player Yank Rachell in Indianapolis near the end of his life. My friend and guitar teacher Dave Morgan made...
I would start with just restringing it with something light as suggested and give it a test drive.
I have found that I can make my mandolin sound better by handing it to someone else.
Wonderful looking mandolin. It would be an awesome upgrade from mine.
Almost everything I buy out of state charges sales tax, though there are exceptions. I bought an Eastman MD505 from The Mandolin Store in January and they did not charge sales tax. However, my state,...
I much prefer the Mandolin Store demos by Adam . He plays a variety of things that give, at least to me, a better feel for what the mandolins can do.
James, the speed demon in the demo referenced,...
I found some old threads. Most believe it is only cosmetic. No tone difference.
