Re: Price increases coming soon or already here

The only surprising thing is it's taken them this long.

I doubt this has any impact on domestic builders since none of them play at this price point.
  7. Re: F5 Upgrade Guidance - Gibson, Collings, Northfield

I'm not aware of a Kimble F5 currently on the market but they have shown up in that range. There were recently 2 Duffs for sale at $6,800 and $7,500
  8. Re: F5 Upgrade Guidance - Gibson, Collings, Northfield

All three solid instruments. I'm not a big Northfield fan but I haven't played their latest high end stuff. There's a Collings MF5 in the classifieds for $5,900. They're always easy to move if you...

I bought a lot of CDs from Bill. Interesting to learn the backstory. Sincere condolences to his family and friends.

Wow, I knew the number was smaller than Loars but didn't know it was 18. Love the stuff you learn on this site!!

    Re: Loars at Carterís

A better comparison would be the pre-war Gibson flathead market. Granadas have typically been in the Loar price range, if not higher for some. I know almost nothing about banjos though. Anybody...

    Re: Loars at Carterís

Interesting isn’t it? The overall mandolin market seems to be trending up due to short supply yet Loars and Ferns seem to be dropping significantly. I don’t think the younger generation of players...

    Re: Loars at Carterís

People cashing them in for retirement is my guess.
  15. Re: Waiting for a Northfield Big Mon (Wide Nut/Red Spruce)

Good Englemann in the right builder’s hands makes one helluva mandolin!

    Re: RIP Arthur Stern

What a punch to the gut. I got to meet and hang out with Arthur at a Mandolin Symposium. Thanks to the Cafe it was like we had known each other for years. He was kind, generous, and I admired his...

    Re: My MAS is cured.

Being satisfied with what you have and being cured of MAS are two very different things. I’ve had my A5 for over 13 years and my F5 for 7-ish now. But when I was in Nashville recently I went to...

It was an absolute blast! And I finally got to pick with the famous Don Grieser. :mandosmiley:

Hope to make it back next year!
  23. Re: Focal Point Presents | Mike Compton + Joe Newberry

I spent some time playing that F4 this past weekend. One of the finest mandolins I’ve ever played. Just exceptional in every way!

Thanks for posting the video. Can’t wait to dig into it.

Re: Flat Tops, Waterloo and others

I also own a Nyberg flattop. And I promise you it cost a lot more than a Waterloo! Flat or carved fine craftsmanship is worth the money!
