    Re: Loars at Carterís

Interesting isn’t it? The overall mandolin market seems to be trending up due to short supply yet Loars and Ferns seem to be dropping significantly. I don’t think the younger generation of players...

    Re: RIP Arthur Stern

What a punch to the gut. I got to meet and hang out with Arthur at a Mandolin Symposium. Thanks to the Cafe it was like we had known each other for years. He was kind, generous, and I admired his...

    Re: My MAS is cured.

Being satisfied with what you have and being cured of MAS are two very different things. I’ve had my A5 for over 13 years and my F5 for 7-ish now. But when I was in Nashville recently I went to...

Re: Flat Tops, Waterloo and others

I also own a Nyberg flattop. And I promise you it cost a lot more than a Waterloo! Flat or carved fine craftsmanship is worth the money!

Re: Rest in Peace - Byron Berline passes

This one hit especially hard. I got my first mandolin lesson from Byron while I was in college at Oklahoma State. He was a big Sooner fan so we always had fun with the rivalry. It was thanks to...

    Re: Mandolins in LA? shops?

What are you looking for? SoCal is a mandolin desert. You know about McCabe's. Norm's Rare Guitars might have something but it will probably be overpriced. Steve Sorensen is a great builder that...

  20. Re: Looking for some insight into microtonal mandolin

Maybe I should rephrase......I understand the mechanics of it. But why is this pleasing to the ear? Flynn is a great musician and I enjoy his music. But this isn’t listenable for me.
  21. Re: Looking for some insight into microtonal mandolin

Not sure I get it either....
  22. Re: Where can a classical/Italian player find a non-bowlback mand
