Re: Porcupine Tree - Trains - chord Dadd4add9

Thank you @journeybear. Does that also mean that if I need what is called out as an A7 or Am7 on capo 5 on guitar, I can play D7 and Dm7 on mando with no capo?

Re: Porcupine Tree - Trains - chord Dadd4add9

Thank you. I will try this. That is a good tip! Also, it looks like this is just slide the chord up 5- 1/2 notes, or frets. Is that the way it would work with all of these?

Re: Porcupine Tree - Trains - chord Dadd4add9

I was able to transpose the arpeggio section note-by-note to mando, no capo, after finding a tab for guitar with a capo 5. But during a lot of this song I could contribute more if I could find a...

OK, all done. New strings and moved the bridge. You can see in the light area how far off it was. Now 12th fret is a harmonic of the zero fret. New strings and it plays ok. Thanks!

    Re: Crestline 'Mandolin'?

Perfect. Thank you so much. Very educational. I'll be re-stringing and relocating the bridge. I'll post again in this thread when it is done. Thanks again.

    Re: Crestline 'Mandolin'?

Distance from nut (that first fret is actually functioning as the nut and 12 fret is just over 7". Distance from 12th to bridge is 8.5". So do you think all I have to do is loosen the strings and...

    Re: Crestline 'Mandolin'?

Thanks I'll do that. And did you notice that there is a fret very close to what I thought would have been the nut? It is like that first fret is functioning as the nut.

    Re: Crestline 'Mandolin'?

Measurements: Fretboard is approx 9 3/4", 18 frets, length between bridge and nut is 15 1/4". Just curious if this is some other type of mandolin so that I can figure out how to tune it.

    Crestline 'Mandolin'?

I was given this Crestline CR300NT recently. I assumed it was a standard mandolin until I started trying to tune it. The distance between the bridge and nut is longer and it has a lot less frets than...

Re: Porcupine Tree - Trains - chord Dadd4add9

The tabs in guitar tabs.com are a little unclear. Standard EADGBE tuning but capo up '3rd or 5th fret'. I thought just playing the Fmaj7 and Cmaj7 on mando with no capo sounded about right but maybe...

Re: Porcupine Tree - Trains - chord Dadd4add9

Thank you very much for the feedback and thank you for putting the time in to listen to it. Yes, about 3:17 in. I recognize it is a riff section but this could be based off of a chord structure I...

Does this mean d-major and add the 4th (G) and the 9th (E)?

    Porcupine Tree - Trains - chord Dadd4add9

I have been playing mando a little over a year but have been playing acoustic for decades. I am not a trained musician. I have a group of prog rock musicians that I fell into. They have asked me to...
