    Re: Repair frustration

I second that! Bruce does great work with serious attention to detail. Get your money back and send it to him. Yes, it costs time, but you’ll have your mando at optimal function!

    Re: Pick spin

I think I have a solution! I curl my index finger a little more and brace up the pick against the crease the skin makes. Make sense? It’s taken a little practice, but I can pick more aggressively...

    Re: seeking modern bluegrass suggestions

I would suggest Mike Mullins. He’s one of the best mandolinists out there and not as recognized as he should be. Listen to the Cache Valley Drifters, a very progressive bluegrass band from...

    Re: Pick spin

I’m getting some good ideas here! I like the sandpaper idea.
I keep my index finger curled on the bottom of the pic, and the flat of my thumb on top.
I believe this is the standard grip. Both the...

    Re: Pick spin

I’m tempted to superglue the damn pick to my fingers!
Has anyone tried a drop of caulk in the middle of the pick?
I’ve tried cutting a grid in the middle, but that didn’t help much.

    Pick spin

I’m now in a duet with a great Banjo/Guitar player. We play a lot of aggressive fiddle and bluegrass tunes. I’ve been having problems keeping the pick in place. It tends to rotate towards my palm as...

    Re: Keeping time

I find most of the tunes I need to practice on you tube and jam out to that. Having good rhythm is everything. A simple solo with great rhythm is much more effective than a bunch of notes crammed...

    I want my chops back

Spent the last 16 months doing nothing but riding my bike.No Gigs, No Jams. No point. Got crazy fit but also crazy.
Old music friend came over. We got drunk. We got high. We jammed. I sucked. ...

    No motivation

I’ve lost all motivation to practice or learn new tunes.
No more jams due to the pandemic.
The great 48 is now canceled. It was the greatest jam scene!
    All the festivals are cancelled.
    I don’t...

Re: Bluegrass/Old Time in New Orleans?

I lived in N.O. From 1975-1981. Went to Tulane. I played banjo in a working bluegrass band called “Hopalong Casually” in those days. We had regular gigs at various bars. We were not the only...

Re: Am I asking too much?

Is $85.00 that important? Surly there is a deserving aspiring musician that could use a free Mando. Then your cup runith over.

Get it to Bruce Weber at Montana Luthrie. He’ll put a proper Bridge on it.

Re: Received my frist mandolin, now what?

Sorry to say all 3. Learn to chop if you’re a grasser like myself.
Knowing scales will enable you to improvise.
    It’s a wonderful journey.
  17. Re: So... They seem to think I'm starving and homeless?

I am a roaming homeless minstrel. I travel through out the countryside playing music , not unlike O’Carolin, only on a mandolin. People take me in and then may kick me out. I break hearts and find...

Does anyone have a suggestion as to what strings sound best on a Collings MF deluxe?
    I’m using J74s now.

Re: Pete Seeger Ripping on Mandolin

I remember the red Pete Seeger “ How to Play the 5 String Banjo” book. Got me started down this path.

Re: Pete Seeger Ripping on Mandolin

    That is a great video!
I started playing the Banjo at the age of 14 because of Pete Seeger. I've seen him on the Sloop Clearwater on the Hudson many years ago. I switched from folk to bluegrass...

    Re: TOH Weber warranty

OK, so TOH is using the Weber name. Every Mandolin they make has the Weber name, even in the same font, on the peghead.
I just think that it's morally wrong not to stand behind the name they bought.

    Re: TOH Weber warranty

Send it to Bruce. I sent my Bitterroot to him and he did an awesome job. He did some custom work, (binding the back) replaced the nut to take care of buzzing issues. He also refit the bridge. The...
