    Re: Carpenter jack

I used a carpenter jack for a while and then switched to a Vintage Jack. The carpenter jack was OK but you do have to be careful when unplugging and there is always the chance of it getting yanked...

    Re: Mark Leaf Cases

I have a white case for an F style mandolin that I custom ordered, probably in the 1990's. Obviously, it came in white from Leaf.

    Re: Custom Transducer Pickup Idea

I am also only guessing but it seems to me that more transducers might mean more potential for phasing problems when the multiple signals are mixed. OTOH, it would be an interesting experiment and...

    Re: bottle neck

You may be kidding but I think it is an awesome product idea :) As a society, we really need to move past obsolete 1920's technology and raise the bar (and the price) for premium bottleneck slides.

    Re: Who plays mandola?

I have also used a Baggs radius on 2 different mandolas with good results.
  6. Re: Multi-instrumentalists--do you use a different pick for mando

On mandolin and mandola I normally use the rounded corner of a Blue Chip TAD-1R 60. I use the same on my very bright Taylor guitar. But for most guitars I use either the sharp corners of the TAD-1R...

    Re: Who plays mandola?

I play mandola. My signature (below) links to an example (that also includes mandolin) and our new EP will be out in a few weeks with another mandola song (i.e no mandolin on that track).

    To...

Re: What happened to the volume???

Could be an EQ problem? Mandolins live in a pretty high frequency range and if that is cut for some reason you aren't going to hear much. Just a thought.

I have acess to a great mandolin that was originally owned by a famous player, and later by a really good semi famous player. Nearly everyone who plays it (or even hears it) is affected by this...

Re: Breedlove VS. higher end Pac-Rim imports.

I had the opportunity to play a lot of mandolins when I worked in the music store and like the sound of most Breedloves better than most Kentuckies or Loars (except real Loars of course). At any...

Re: Anyone ever make a 335-shaped mandolin?

Paul Newson makes a really great single cutaway mandola. I use one for recording and love it.

Re: Changes in Collings since 2002?

I was curious so I stopped by Gryphon today to play this mandolin. Its neck profile is very similar to my MT2, serial number 245 (sorry I don't know offhand the year mine was made). The neck is...

    Re: vinyl grommets

Personally, I feel that the unmuted ringing of strings between bridge and tailpiece is part of the sound of a mandolin. That opinion notwithstanding, I do use a wedgie pick holder on my mandola in...

Looks pretty normal to me, asuming you collected those over a reasonable period of time. OTOH If you bought them all last week you probably have a problem.

I have used the Baggs Radius for a couple of years on my mandolin and mandola and like it a lot.
