Re: Identifying unmarked bowl backed mandarin - UK

Might be a pre 1900 instrument:
-This type of small symmetrical scratchplate looks pretty 1800s
-bowls consisting of alternating wood types seemed to have their hayday before 1900 (though you can...

Re: What type of Mandolin is this?

    To state the obvious:
This mandolin is inspired by Luigi Embergher's mandolins.
They were there the hottest sheet at the beginning of the last century (and still are).
So you will find more or...

    Re: Roderich Paesold mandolin?

This mandolin is from Reghin, Romania.
They probably just slapped the Paesold-Label on it.
The same type of mandolin, with just minor changes, is build to this day by the Hora factory.

    Re: RIP Hans Süper junior

Thanks, I'm now halfway through the documentation. (Sorry to all of you not speaking German).

I also had a quick look at the mandolins Süper was playing over the years.

    RIP Hans Süper junior

Hans Süper junior (1936-2022) was a comedian and mandolin player from Cologne, Germany.
He passed away from cancer on December 3rd.

Though having a strong Cologne dialect he was known across...

    Re: Mystery Croatian Instrument

Does anyone have an idea, what strings / string diameter to use to tune a bisernica in fifths?
I also have one and tore a string trying to do so. I guess I got overly zealous.

    Re: Catania Creation? Very colourful.

I saw pretty much this same model on German eBay a few years back for like 200-300 euros, but it was optically in better condition. It still had the wooden bottom part that's missing from the one...

Re: Please help me identify the mandoline

The tailpiece is literally the most used tailpiece on vintage German mandolins. So there's that.

I presume it was built by one of the few dozen luthiers in East Germany who also built archtop jazz...

Re: This weeks mandolin that won't get a bid or buyer

The painting might be from 1994 but the mandolin itself seems indeed like a soviet mandolin from the Lviv factory.

Re: What or why is this?

That is a German "Wappen"-Style mandolin body.
  12. Re: Identify this British (?) mandolin player is Lilly Selden

This reminds me of the Monzino mandolins from Italy.

  13. Re: Pocket mandolin, not attic but garbage can found

Because of the head stock, headstock inlay, neck shape, like almost everything.

Also the fact that someone was so attached to it that he made a playable (?) instrument out of it again when it was...

Re: Found an old Sicilian bowlback

The tater bug stamp is very reminiscent of the ant stamp on Puglisi mandolins.
Now I wonder if there are even more Catanian insect stamp mandolins.

    Re: Il Globo mandolin
