I think Larry Rice played an early 70's model ( at least that is what it looked like) when I knew him in So Calif. I don't know if he kept that mandolin when he played with JD.

Is it possible to have 2 Gibson mandolins with the exact same serial # if one was built in 2001 and the other in 2011, or 2002- 2012. How is the decade noted in the serial number?
