  1. Re: Strategies (or contraptions) to tame the flying fingers?

Here's a recent? thread on this topic. Note post #45 which references 19th century composer Robert Schumann who aspired to be high flying professional pianist, before turning to composition. He...

I have no useful info here, but note that the name on the headstock is Bruhn, not Brunh.

    Re: Mandolin project

1/64" at the first fret would be considered very high and off the charts for me personally. Take a look at Frank Ford's [URL="http://frets.com/FretsPages/pagelist.html" site[/URL]. Here's the page...

Re: Early 1922 F4 tuner slips

Re Paul's site availability: I typed in lutherie.net a couple times this am, and Paul's site comes right up. You do have to click on the violin, to get to a site map.
  6. Re: Loosen a tight tuning machine on an Eastman Oval

Paul Hostetter's page on maintaining tuners just in case you haven't looked at it. If it were me, I would remove string first and check how it turns without tension, then remove tuners on that side...

Re: Drop In Tuners For 1933 Gibson A

Last time I went to lutherie.net, it wasn't there. I had to go to archive.org(Wayback Machine) to re-read that page. It's not too hard to dig it up, if you have some experience with Wayback; it'll...

    Re: What's this? 0-3-2-0

I think Mark is looking for a term like "chord notation" or "chord shorthand", but one that is widely accepted to describe such chord representation as 0-2-3-0 or 0-0-2-3 or 2-4-5-x. It'd be good if...

    Re: Sinker redwood questions

(i'm not Dale) Here is a mention of the Sullivan stash. Don't know how much redwood was involved, but Bruce did have some nice redwood. Yours looks like a very nice piece of wood.

    Re: International Violin Mandolin Kit

If you run 'international violin' in the search window on the builders forum page, you'll get lots of results 201586. I built a couple of them around 2005 or 2006, they were well worth the money. I...

Chordify has a playalong version of AJ and the Bros(Harvest Moon), if that appeals to you.

    Re: Crestline 'Mandolin'?

The fret close to the nut is called the "zero" fret. That's the one you should measure scale length from; all the strings should be touching it. The "nut" in this case is just locating the strings...

    Re: Crestline 'Mandolin'?

Measure distance from zero fret to 12th fret and double it; that the nominal scale length(actual will be slightly longer-maybe 1/8"). I suspect bridge is located incorrectly.

Re: Octave Mandolin nut and bridge spacing

I know nothing about octaves, but... I ran "octave spacing" in the CBOM search forum and got a few entries. Here's one with some genuine luthiers contributing.

If you run "Condino douglas" in this forum's search, you'll get some results from back in the aughts. Whether suitable for flat tops: don't think that ever came up.

    Re: E strings breaking?

That sounds like a problem at the nut, if so, most likely slots are too narrow.
