Great story, John - and, as usual, beautiful mandolins ... Yep, the quilt is terrific too!
Very cool, f5loar. Great story and interesting info. Yeh - sounds like they still living Wiley's comment in the movie - "they tear them up - we fix them ..." (or something to that effect). ...
Exactly - just found that one - and this one too http://www.mandolincafe.com/forum/showthread.php?50456-Unlabeled-Mandolin

Thanks for the quick reply, Mike! I'll try hunting down that path ...
Hey folks -
A friend brought his dad's mandolin into work the other day. I found a Kay with this body shape - but not the headstock - found the headstock on other brands, but not the body ......
Yep, Chris - that's it - sure sounds great ... A fine player on a fine mandolin. Thanks for posting the link!
Thanks, f5loar -I might just do that very thing-I need a road trip anyway... After I posted, I was checking through the fantastic archives here at the Cafe (something I should have done before...
All you Gibson A experts - I was watching the Earl Scruggs bio video last night and one of the clips was of Earl, his son and the Morris Brothers. Zeke Morris was playing what looked to be a...
Well, 300win, I experienced the same thing - last night around 9:30. Started playing and just a few minutes into it, the mandolin (older Collings MF5) sounded really great (so I knew it wasn't me)....
Just amazing, John!
Hey Jeff -
Can't comment on the science of it, but let me relate the experience I've had in the last few months. I've had a 03 Collings MF5 for about a year and a half now - wasn't played much...
Yep, saw them in Clayton, NC a few weeks back. Absolutely great show!
Beautiful burst, Andrew! And the binding work looks flawless ...
It's a beautiful thing. Thanks for sharing that clip. My own grandmother recently died at 104 - didn't play mandolin but she still drank bourbon and dipped snuff ...
Just echoing Michael's post - yes, thanks, Adrian, for these wonderful plans. The detail is just phenomenal!
Hey Rob -
Googled Lutz spruce just out of curiousity ... Lots of stuff there to weed through, including a little info from the US Forest Service about Dendroctonus rufipennis eating Picea lutzii...
Thanks, folks! Lenf12 - that's what I was suspecting - it was something like that (hadn't begun measuring things yet ...) - either the nut - the string break angles - or something. Mandroid -...
Here's the situation. I have two Collings - one older MF5 and a new MT2. The action on the MF5 is low so I've lowered the action on the MT2 (which was too high for me) to get somewhere in the...
Looks absolutely great, Dale! Very clean looking - very classy. So, what's it sounding like - what woods, etc.??
Very sad. A wonderful musician and true gentleman. May he RIP.
I understand what you're saying, JeffD ... And it makes good sense. I had some little success concentrating on the Irish stuff on one instrument - but I'm all over the place on guitar really -...
Wow - very interesting, folks ... Your comments are very helpful. farmerjones - anti-genre - LOL! And Jill - that's pretty much how I approached learning fiddle - totally focused on NOTHING...
Not to derail the OP - but just to add another layer to it. I'd be interested in knowing how many of you concentrate on one "genre" or musical style on one instrument - another on your other...
Beautiful - love the burst on front and back! That back wood is gorgeous. I'm sure it sounds as good or better than it looks. Congrats!
Thanks, mdlorenz, for bringing this up - saw it the other day and was curious about it as well.
John - thanks for your comments. When I first saw it, I was struggling to figure out how this...
