I think it's a question of what mid-level pricing means to you. I think you can find a good pancake OM in the $1500 range & the same for an archtop.

I have a mandobird with an Almuse pickup that sounds great. I also get good results from blade magnet pickups like Jonathan Mann uses.

The amp I use has reverb built in but I also have a Strymon Flint that does well. I only play the solid bodies plugged in though.
