  1. Re: Interesting effects on West Dakota Rose intro

Sounds to me like a bit of both. It could be one of the really funky shifters that has an envelope filter as well.

    Re: Favorite mandolin playing beverage?

Water or tea, depending on the time of day. Ice depends on the season
  3. Re: Instrument stand for Epiphone Mandobird...

I hang mine on the wall on String Swings when they're not in the case. I do find that the smaller mandolin hooks hold every headstock fine but the larger guitar hooks can be a problem with narrow...

    Re: Luither in Seattle Area

I didn't realize they changed their repair policy. It's been a while since I've been up to Dusty Strings  I've heard good things about American Music, about halfway up the hill from Dusty...
  6. Re: What Are Some Good Options in the $2-3k range?

Sweet! Nothing like a new mandolin to encourage a good dose of woodshedding :mandosmiley:

    I really like the GBOM!
  8. Re: Stewmac mini Tele kit as 6 string tenor guitar?

I have one of each of these kits with the same intention on at least one.

    Re: Luither in Seattle Area

I use Dusty Strings for mandolins & Emerald City Guitars or Thunder Road Guitars for guitars & basses.

Re: Future octave mandolin player question?

I started out with an Eastman MDO305 which confirmed my inclinations toward the OM but felt a little stiff & sounded a little thin. I got a Weber Gallatin OM which has a larger body and much fuller...
  11. Re: Indian rosewood and redwood octave mandolin

I'm a huge fan of redwood tops. I think it often has similar tonal warmth to cedar but with more volume & punch. The grain on both the top & bottom/sides is awesome!

    Re: Stable Cracks

I define a stable crack is one that hasn't moved since the initial crack or been glued, cleated & hasn't progressed any further. In either case, you're trusting the seller to be honest so I tend to...

Re: Distressed Mandolin and Regular Playing

I don't care for relic jobs that look obvious but there are some artists that can take a new guitar & make it feel just as lovingly broken in as a pre-CBS strat. I think the number of players trying...

    Re: cheap build kit

I think applying finish is one of the hardest skills in woodworking. I'm just a hobbyist but have yet to find an "easy" finish but I usually chalk that up to user errors :)) I think, for most...

    Re: Finger style mandolin

I've experimented with hybrid picking using a thumb pick and fingers with mixed results thus far. I can't grow out my fingernails though or I'll chew 'em :whistling:

Poll: Re: Solid Wood Acoustic Environment/Storage

Though I agree a lot of worry about humidity is overblown, I have had the top seam open up on an acoustic guitar that was stored at my office. The air conditioner [I]might[I] dry out your air but I...

I have four & eight string electric mandolins and one of the Airline mandolas too but the Zenkl being a hollowbody seems like it would have a unique tone to the others. Converting an acoustic is a...

This is one of my white whales!! Alas, money & opportunity haven't ever intersected :crying:

I do like fingerstyle with my GBOMs but I agree with the others on the lack of volume.

    Re: NMD: 2007 Triggs F5

They either didn't bother checking the mandolin before shipping or don't know better. Either way, I wouldn't trust them enough to buy picks. My manager at a fast food place once who said "You may...

Re: 8 string tenors - opinions?

I found a US Reverb ad that lists a 23" scale for one of his tenors. I'd call the 8 string version is a GBOM but it's just vocabulary at that point
